Im running on a DIR-880L with firmware DD-WRT v3.0-r36596 std (08/14/1Cool.

Only issue so far is high temps..
CPU 104.1 °C / WL0 49.8 °C / WL1 46.5 °C

Otherwise, no problems.
Temp could be design related maybe.

Ok, so anyone has tested some newer builds for DIR-880L, which will work stable?
I'm still on r34411 std ("01/07/18") which seems to work fine on rev.A1 - stable, uptime 22 days.

Updated mine to r36596 std ("08/14/18") yesterday, no issues so far, no excessive temperature display (Temperatures: CPU 79.1 °C / WL0 53.3 °C / WL1 49.0 °C).

Only issue was, that directly after the update, the web access was not accessible. A reboot fixed the issue.

Guest wifi in r36645 does not complete dhcp request for me. dir880l a2 is running in ap mode with dhcp server on another computer. dhcp log shows dhcpdiscover and dhcpoffer but no dhcprequest coming from guest wifi. Strange that main wifi works but not guest.

Is guest wifi working in r36596?

Just purchased and received this router (rev A2)
Would not flash out of the box (invalid firmware) to ddwrt from firmware 1.08WW, had to downgrade to 1.07 (said A1 but no options for A2 firmware on dlink site) from the emergency interface, then factory to ddwrt worked. After applying 37305 webflash, I noticed I only had wl0 (5ghz) on wireless setup page, my desktop would connect but speeds were abysmal. Flashed to 36698, same issue. Flashed to 36596 as ReinerS stated no issues for him, no difference. Flashed back to factory and I can't even see the SSID from any client now. I know I could see it before starting any flashing, however as I had no intention of using factory firmware, I never bothered trying to see if it worked properly. Is my hardware bad, or is it possible I did something to the software to screw up wireless across any firmware I try? Thanks for the help guys.

fyi, I had high cpu temp reported on all 3 ddwrt firmwares (even 36596) 100+

Digging Deeper...
Was ready to give up on this and ship back to amazon, decided to flash back to 1.08

1.08 from dlink us support site is not the same as the 1.08 on the router before I started, I remember the date being different, anyway, flashed it and could then see the ssids from my clients.
Flashed dd-wrt, which now worked as it was supposed to. 350mbps from my poor old zyxel x650, no drops in the couple hours testing this so far.
On 36596 now, everything working as expected except one
CPU still has High temp reported 95+ immediately after boot, and status page reports only one cpu core. I assume the A2 rev should have the same cpu as A1, which should be dual core from what I can find. Is this a bug or something?

Code:
root@DD-WRT:~# cat /proc/cpuinfo
model name      : ARMv7 Processor rev 0 (v7l)
processor       : 0
BogoMIPS        : 1594.16
Features        : half fastmult edsp tls
CPU implementer : 0x41
CPU architecture: 7
CPU variant     : 0x3
CPU part        : 0xc09
CPU revision    : 0

Hardware        : Northstar Prototype
Revision        : 0000
Serial          : 0000000000000000

I can also confirm that Guest wifi would not complete a DHCP request on 36596, if anyone still cares about that.

Router ded Sad
Seemed to be working fine, ran fine for at least 12 hours, wasn't working properly when I got home from work. Restarted it and now only get orange power light. 50/50 on even getting a link over ethernet. Can't get to recovery or anything. Oh well...suppose I'll look for another brand given the issues with this one. Hope my ramblings at least help someone else.

I have the cable connected to the ports on my 880L and set up the COM port with the proper baud settings and then set up putty with the settings and power on the 880L but can not get the cfe> prompt. The screen shows some undecipherable (by me) text and symbols and will not stop. No matter how many times I mash on ctl+c.

I followed the instructions here: https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Serial_Recovery

Attached is a screen shot of my output. Any thoughts?

I just flashed another router via serial, mine did almost exactly this, and it was because my ground wasn't good. If you soldered the connections on yourself, resolder. A bit of pressure on each connection while booting will probably tell you which one it is, should clear up, or stop altogether. If solder seems good, check your cable.

Paulman9, that was it, thank you. The ground wasn't making proper connection. Now I've issued the nvram erase command and it came back with:

*** command status = 0

Is this correct? The instruction page I've linked above does not state what the output of the nvram erase command will be. Thanks again.

OK, never mind. It was the correct output. When I plugged in the Ethernet cable, set static IP to 192.168.0.10 and then navigated to 192.168.0.1 it gave me the "Recovery Mode" page where I was able to upload the latest dlink firmware and now everything is back to normal. One note for others... the firmware upload failed twice.. at 80% and 75% before completing. The third try I used a different Ethernet port on the router and that seemed to work.

As it says, the 2.4 Ghz wifi will drop intermittently. Eventually it comes back, maybe after a few minutes. Running r34311 on DIR-880L. 5Ghz runs flawlessly. Is there I can check to see why this is happening?

Can anyone tell me if 5ghz radio or any other performance is hampered when using DD-WRT?

I've recently read that some routers don't achieve full speed unless using stock firmware drivers.

I get about 400-500 Mbps on the 5 GHz band using Wireless AC. Wireless N is of course a bit slower.

Do you need more than 500 Mbps via WiFi? If yes, you might as well hard wire said device.

Thanks for your reply. I suppose I don't need extreme speeds, I'm just trying to ensure I have it set up optimally for DD-WRT.

I'm also curious if DD-WRT is never going to match the speed of the stock firmware (dir-880L) due to proprietary drivers?

D-Link advertises:
11AC Wi-Fi – World’s fastest Wi-Fi speeds of up to 600Mbps (2.4GHz) + 1300Mbps (5Ghz)
