Is the Dir-830L supported at all? I can't seem to find any information regarding the device on the forum or the internet, however I see that there are firmware flashes for the Dir-825 and 835. Would it be okay to use one of the following firmwares or should I look to purchase a known compatible router? I am trying to set it up as a repeater using DD-WRT.

Buy a supported router. Also not all supported routers can be set up as repeaters if I’m not mistaken.
