Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and also to networks in general.

I would like some help in configuring my setup.

What my setup looked like before I purchased my Netgear R7000 :

ISP Modem/Router (SFR NB6)
=> NvidiaShield through Ethernet
=> Computer through Ethernet
=> NAS Synology DS218j through Ethernet

I have a DNS name which is linked to my public IP Address from my ISP modem/router.
I configured a static IP address for my NAS and made some Port forwarding to be able to access my NAS from outside my network.
So <DNS name>:xxxx gets me directly to my NAS Interface/Apps.

I bought the Netgear R7000 for a few reasons :
- The 5Ghz Wifi signal from my ISP modem is crap
- I can't get Wifi signal in certain rooms of the house
- I want to have one device connected to a VPN at all times (NordVPN) and therefor having all other devices going through that VPN connection

I've flashed DD-WRT onto my R7000 : Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r36410 std (07/28/1Cool

What setup I'm trying to configure :

ISP Modem/Router (SFR NB6)
=> Netgear R7000
==> NvidiaShield through Ethernet
==> Computer through Ethernet
==> NAS Synology DS218j through Ethernet

With this setup, I have internet access on all my devices plugged in the Router. I can also access my NAS interface through its Local IP address.

My ISP modem/router doesn't have a bridge mode.
Its Local IP Address is 192.168.1.1.

I had to change the default Local IP Address for the R7000 to 192.168.11.1, obviously for conflict reasons.

I've created a static address on my ISP modem/router for the Netgear R7000 such as 192.168.1.xxx

What I'm having trouble with is how to configure both ISP Router and Netgear R7000 to forward connections from my <DNS name>:xxxx to my NAS interface.

What i've tried so far, on my ISP router, I've configured Port Forwarding the "NAS port "xxxx"" to my R7000 Local IP Address :
Protocol : Both
Type : Port
Port : xxxx
Destination IP : 192.168.1.xxx (static ip for my R7000 declared on my ISP router)
Destination Port : xxxx

And on my R7000, I configured port forwarding as follows :
Protocol : Both
Source Net : 192.168.11.1 (my R7000 local IP Address, is this correct ?) also tried 192.168.1.xxx (static IP Address for the R7000 configured on my ISP router)
Port from : xxxx
IP Address : 192.168.11.xxx (the NAS Local IP Address given by the R7000)
Port to : xxxx
Enabled : checked

I know that because of the unability to set up my ISP router in bridge only, I have a double NAT network.
With this, is it still possible to redirect my <DNS Name>:xxxx to my NAS ?

Sorry if my post seems confused. I'm not really good at networks ...
If you can help me with details on how to do what I want, that would be great.

Source Net shall be 0.0.0.0 or Blank.

Oh, ok.
I'll try that then.

Do you think what Iid like to do is possible ? with the Double NAT network ?

Right now I changed my setup because I couldn't figure out how to make it work ...

I plugged my NAS and Shield back onto my ISP router, and left my Computer on the DD-WRT Router.

I set up a VPN connection on the router so my Computer and any devices connected through WiFi are going through the VPN.

However, I can no longer access my NAS directly from my computer (or I don't know how) as they are no longer on the same network (NAS on 192.168.1.xxx and Computer on 192.168.11.xxx).

I'll try what you have suggested and plug back the NAS on the DD-WRT Router, as well as the Shield.

Thanks for your help.

You should be able to access 192.168.1.xxx by entering a route 192.168.1.0/24 to the WAN interface.

Was you able to access the NAS before you started the VPN?

First setup where you connect everything on the R7000 is the easiest, double natting should work but set the source to 0.0.0.0/0 as Per Yngve said.

Alternative setup the R7000 as a WAP: https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_access_point
Problem with this setup is that you can setup an openVPN client on the R7000 but you have to be able to set this R7000 as gateway in the DNS Masq of your primary router, and that is probably not possible as this is a non DDWRT router.

You current setup with clients connected on both routers is possible but as they are on different subnets you can only connect by IP address there will not be any DLNA or windows discovery between subnets.
If this is not a problem then I can send instructions to link these routers (open up firewall and add route to secondary router) so that clinets on both routers can communicate by IP address

Another thing you can do, is changing the dd-wrt router from Gateway to Router Mode. This will disable NAT.

You have to enter a static route on the nb6 to 192.168.11.0/255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.xxx (the WAN interface of the dd-wrt router).
