Hope this is the right place to ask this question about installing dd-wrt on my router.
I have a Linksys E 2500 and went to the database searched for my router and it is supported. I downloaded two files, but first did my 30-30-30 reset.
I tried installing one of the files which is
dd-wrt.v24-36410_NEWD-2_K2.6big-rv60K.bin
This installation fails almost immediately.
What if anything did I do wrong and how do I get around this?
Thanks

The database on the main page is old make sure that you use:
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices

I looked for your router and see that it is on the list (hopefully you have v1 or v2) Your router is also a Broadcom so posting in that forum will help with specific questions in future.

Here is a link to some instructions for you

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_E2500

based on looking through, you want to flash either (using the latest firmware as of writing):

http://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2018/07-28-2018-r36410/broadcom_K3X/dd-wrt.v24-36410_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e2500.bin

http://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2018/07-28-2018-r36410/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-36410_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e2500.bin

notice the e2500 in the names, that means it is for your router.

PS. I do not own a E2500 router, so any specific quirks to that router I do not know.

Just to be sure, I am really new at this, I flash the router first with the proper files, then proceed to download and install the new firmware? Correct?

"Flash the router" and "install the new firmware" are two phrases for the same thing, so it's impossible to quite know what you are asking here.

If you mean "I flash the router first with the [old] files [from the wiki], then proceed to download and install the new firmware [after researching build the appropriate threads]", then yes. Smile

Also, to be sure, I presume your router is a v1?

If it's NIB, it's most likely a V3. Which, by the way, they released yet another OEM firmware update for in the past month or so (v 3.0.05 build 2) dated 10/02/2018.
