Well, I ended up just biting the bullet and flashing LEDE. Speeds are much better to my cell phone, ~350 Mbps. I think with my laptop the problem might be this adapter is a bit finicky. If anyone could make a recommendation for a USB 802.11ac adapter, one that can do 3 streams, I'd appreciate it.

I use my router as a server and I do need swap support because the physical RAM isn't enough. If someone else has successfully upgraded the RAM on this unite, I'd even do it.

Kernel support for swap is not only enabled for other routers but was also originally enabled for this router. It was disabled because of an issue that has been fixed as far as I can gather since I found this:

https://svn.dd-wrt.com//ticket/5619

I may have to re-compile dd-wrt by myself but I was hoping to avoid that, seeing as others may have use for swap too.

We just need to uncomment the line that says

Code:
CONFIG_SWAP=y

https://svn.dd-wrt.com/browser/src/router/configs/ipq806x/.config_r7800

Is there a way we can create a modification and ask to merge on that SVN? I've already left a comment on the ticket that has been opened for 21 months.

a 3x3 usb adapter? those even exist?

I have a D-Link DWA-192, a 3x3 USB 3.0 wireless adapter. Works really well, use it on my desktop when I need to use it on wireless. Kind of an entertaining form factor as well, got watch that it doesn't get away from you *smile*.

And LEDE is working well for me on the R7800 at the moment, but I'll be back *smile*.

What do you mean good luck with LEDE? It's been rock solid so far. Hasn't dropped connection once, speeds are good, and the UI is nice too. I mean yeah, TFTP flash is a bit weird but it's not that difficult if you're moderately tech savvy.

For Netgear routers, Kong is uploading firmware's to the My Open Router site: https://www.myopenrouter.com/download
You will need to create an account.

That said, I don't think he's posted any of his "test" folder builds. The last one on the above link is from Feb.

36100 was from 6/8/18 and had three versions. You want to make sure you get V3. I didn't own the R7800 last month so I didn't save a version. Alozaros might have one to post.

Thanks Malachi and msoengineer.
Yea, I didn't see the 36100 there.
I appreciate the help though.
If someone could post the 36100, I'll buy you beer.

I'm currently running LEDE 17.01.4 and want to switch over to DD-WRT but I have a few questions before I get myself into trouble. Hoping to get some help.

To go from LEDE to DD-WRT is it just a standard tftp upload or do I need to tftp-revert back to factory firmware first? Is there any special prep-firmware/patch that must be loaded first?

You mentioned you prefer the latest kong build. Where can I find his releases?

How much space is left available after a DD-WRT installation? Does Entware come preinstalled or is it a secondary installation?

Thanks in advance!

You'll need to tftp back to Netgear build first, then use Kong's factory to dd-wrt. Once dd-wrt is on, you use the regular bin files for future updates or reverts. You may need to power cycle the router when you do each step. It might look like it got hung up.
