Hi,

is there any reason why on a atheros unit only a kernel module for ext2 is available? See also https://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/5813

Good to know. I'm getting ready to install YAMon on my R7800.

The EA8500 will mount NTFS, FAT32, Ext2, Ext3, or Ext4 Smile

Good to know not every atheros unit has this restriction. The Buffalo WZR-HP-AG300H comes with ext2 and vfat support as far as I can tell from the available kernel modules. My other Buffalo Router, based on a Broadcom Chipset, has more file-system options available, too.
Why aren't these kernel modules included on the WZR-HP-AG300H?

It is all based on Flash space availability. Kernel modules take up space and adding more support on an 8MB flash is hard when a lot of it is used up by core kernel modules for the wireless, etc.

The WZR-HP-AG300H has 32MB of flash space and my current image size is 29757468 bytes. Gonna Check a recent image where the sized increased to ~31MB

I recommend ext4 when setting things up for YAMon. In the past, when my USB drive was formatted to ext2, I occasionally ended up with a badly corrupted USB drive if there was an unexpected reboot (power failure). I have *not* had that problem since moving to ext4.

However, some variants have removed support for ext 3 and/or ext4 so that the firmware fits onto routers with limited memory. In that situation, ext2 may be fine but caveat emptor...
