I am a damn good welder and a poor solderer. I have attached a photo of my r6200 board (serial-pin-locatec) and another I found on another site (serial-pin-holderb).

Is it apparently possible to solder pins or wires to the locations that are pointed out on my board? They are pretty tiny.

What is the gizmo shown in the other photo and how did it get there? (While editing and resizing this I just now noticed those are probably 4 separate holders?)

You can just solder wires to those pads. Be careful not to lift them off the board.

I did not know that could happen. Thanx for that.

Soldering is not like welding.... I can solder but suck at welding (so I know the feeling).

How they did it is that they bent the pins into an "L" shape on the bottom and then soldered them down.

Do it whatever is easiest for you though.

Have looked today for those little black gizmos but I don't know what to call them. Maybe they were OEM on that board. Thought they looked easier to use than wires sticking out to short out unless protected. Doesn't matter, I soldered the wires successfully.
Black tape solves everything.

They are called pin headers (in this case male).

Glad you got it soldered. Have fun
