Hi all,
I'm behind a frustrating AT&T Pace router, and I want to use my R7000 as an internal router. Obviously I need to set the IP for the R7000 as a firewall passthrough in DMZ+ mode on the AT&T router, but it will only do this if its taken from the AT&T DHCP.
How do I set the IP address for the R7000 to be auto assigned from the AT&T router? I've tried entering 0.0.0.0 but it won't allow it. The AT&T router itself is also being a pain and not allowing me to change the IP address from anything but static.

Are you wanting to bypass the Pace router altogether, or run both as gateways, the R7000 as your main wifi AP? Sounds like you have the Pace in bridge mode (essentially):
If you're wanting the Pace to assign a private IP, you need to configure it as a gateway and enable the dhcp server on the LAN ports / wi-fi (you can disable the wi-fi if you're not going to use that as an AP) and take it out of bridge mode. Your WAN config on the R7000 should be set to DHCP. Not familiar with the UI on the Pace, but most routers I've seen allow you to reserve IP addresses for clients so the IP never changes, which is and isn't 'static', if that makes sense. The LAN side of your R7000 should be set in a different subnet than the LAN side of the Pace/WAN side of itself, configured as a gateway and AP for wifi. I haven't messed with "router" mode on my E4200 in DD-WRT, so I have no advice there. Just my thoughts on the situation. This is probably a topic that should be moved elsewhere, but I don't have those magical powers....
Yeah, I'm trying to use the AT&T router as little as possible, just want to pass through all the data to the R700 router and set up the firewall etc. with that.
So I guess that's using the AT&T Pace router as a gateway and the R7000 as an actual router for all traffic and wireless. Unfortunately, I can't see any change of mode on the AT&T router, you can't turn off DHCP and now it's telling me I'm trying to assign two IPs to the same device. Ethernet and wireless maybe? I've turned off the WAN IP for the R7000 obviously and just set it to point towards the gateway of the AT&T router (192.168.1.254).
There is a cascaded and also addition router setting for the AT&T router, but I can't get that to work. It doesn't accept any address I enter.
I think what may help is setting the IP address range of the R7000 as say 192.168.2.x and keep the AT&T gateway as 192.168.1.x as various posts I've seen say this helps. The other option is buying another cable gateway box and using that to do the passthrough

I was looking for how-tos with screenshots of the Pace GUI, didn't really find anything. Would help to have eyes on target, so to speak, but. Sounds like a lot of headache for something that should be simple and straightforward.
Yeah, I've just bitten the bullet and ordered a Netgear gigabit modem I know will work with TWC (we have AT&T now but we're moving in a few weeks and the only ISP there is TWC/Spectrum). Then I can just pass through the internet connection and set the R7000 to do all the port forwarding, wifi, etc.
