Problem when enabling WAN interface on TP-LINK TL-WR703N

Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/25/13) std

Whenever I enable the WAN interface (I've tried both DHCP and static configuration) my router won't let me connect to the webinterface any more, and it stops responding to ping. This forces me to do a 30-30-30 resett which lets me recover, but I am unable to connect to the Internet. Any ideas?

No suggestions? Sad Is this a known issue? Can anyone point me to relevant instructions? Is this issue related to this issue: https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/singleportrouter
