Hi

I came to DDWRT from DavidC502's OPEN WRT/LEDE build, which I flashed from stock.
The main reason for my doing so was that I'd heard good things AND it was easier to get my VPN set up (IPVanish).

I have two problems.

1) I cant get WIFI to work reliably AT ALL. As soon as I try to separate Bands, 5G/2.4G I run into trouble.
I can partially get 5G (160MHZ) going - it is fast too as I have an intel 9260 NIC. But as soon as I try to get 2.4 G working concurrently the SSID isnt showing...
Ive set channels manually and yes I've followed all the guides linked in various posts in this forum.

2) I've got two versions of ddwrt - yeah I installed twice, but now cant seem to install any other firmware except up or downgrades of DDWRT.
I can swap partitions and boot but cannot seem to get anything else installed. At least this has got me up to speed on ssh...

All flashing has been done over ethernet,
Ideally I'd like to run DDWRT and DavidC502/LEDE, but am descending into madness trying to get things to work. I am in the UK.

Any suggestions much appreciated

I would like to help you, but after struggling with the WRT series, I ditched them and went with Asus AC86U's. Never been happier.

The only other way to get Linksys Stock Venom firmware back is via USB-TTL Cable.
I recommend everyone who 'dabbles' in open-source firmware have one on hand:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/954
* Don't forget to download & install the drivers.

The WRT32X stock firmware on Linksys.com will not flash from serial like the other WRT series routers. You'll need the converted Venom firmware from page #3 of the same thread as above:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=315339&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30
The file name is:
FW_WRT32X_1.0.170919.nonjenkins-inteliboy-1619.img

TFTPD32 Software:
http://tftpd32.jounin.net/tftpd32_download.html

Instructions:
https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/linksys/wrt1x00ac_series#serial_firmware_flash

you can get back to stock form ddwrt without a serial cable, but it is a little tedious.
see later in the thread started by spuriousoffspring:

Yeah. I just bought one of those cables. I mess with Raspberry Pi stuff as well so it will be handy.

I'm not THAT bothered about stock firmware, although if it is necessary to install/overwrite one of My DDWRT partitions, to install OpenWRT/LEDE then so be it.

In case you haven't seen this, it definitely makes keeping stock (or any other) firmware untouched on one partition much easier:

DD-WRT Installation, Upgrade & Basic Setup–Cliff Notes wrote:
Trick to Upgrade DD-WRT Firmware without losing current configuration or the need to return to Stock Firmware:

Using Telnet/SSH and the ubootenv set boot_part command (described below) it is possible to upgrade to a newer version of DD-WRT without the need to manually switch back to Stock Firmware Partition. All previously configured settings will remain intact.

1. Use the ubootenv get boot_part command to learn the current Partition in use.
2. Use the ubootenv set boot_part (1 or 2 – the opposite number returned in Step 1) command.
3. DO NOT REBOOT
4. In DD-WRT GUI – Administration Tab – Firmware Upgrade Sub Tab: Upload the new ’dd-wrt webflash.bin’ file for your Router & Hardware Version. MAKE SURE THAT NO RESET IS SELECTED.
5. After Firmware Upgrade is finished the Router will automatically reboot.

*You should now have the new DD-WRT upgrade on the current Partition and OEM Firmware will still be intact on opposite partition.

So My cable arrived and this happened:

Shocked Shocked Shocked

Laughing Laughing

Thanks all for help. Did a few things slightly differently (used Smartty instead of putty and followed a how to video on youtube) :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN7u79EupGQ (the camera work is shonky as hell but the guide is spot on.)

I also had to remove the plastic shims from each connector as they were too loose on the pins otherwise.

Now to break it again Twisted Evil

... tomorrow Laughing

That's great! I'm glad to see you got it back. If you find yourself needing to take the case apart multiple times and you're feeling adventurous, you can install a permanent USB-TTL jack in your router. See my post here (the one with the photo):
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=315339&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30

I would recommend this 3.5mm jack instead of the one I used. Would be much easier to pin-out & solder.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C5B20JG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

The instructions are here:
https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/linksys/wrt1x00ac_series#serial_interfaces

*Not as difficult as it may seem.

Thank you, Yes I saw your post about the jack. Nice idea, but soldering of any kind is, I am afraid, beyond me. I have cerebral palsy - which makes life interesting, and my fine motor control is pretty poor. You should have heard the swearing when I was attatching those connectors after removing the plastic shims Laughing

Next problem is :

Yes it is DavidC502's LEDE build, but I just want to show that I CAN get both radios working concurrently.

Doing anything else like configuring VPN/DDNS breaks things horribly in LEDE.

Bringing things back "on topic" - I can't get both radios going in DDWRT as mentioned above. Currently testing to confirm that I wasn't going mad...

I believe I still have stock fw on partiton 1.

How do I get DDWRT working properly ? (i.e Dual band radios ?) I left ath2 disabled and used 0 and 1 as per your guide but to no avail.

Edit:- Seems to be working now, I have both radios showing on my laptop, used settings that worked in the LEDE screenshot. Will post how I managed once I get some sleep.
