Stay there. Stock is good enough for you. And Tomato is stuck with the old kernel 2.x and old wireless drivers.
R7000 and R7800 on DD-WRT are the most stable and two of the most capable routers currently. If you have just the basics of networking to install and do a minor DD-WRT setup.

It's not a joke. If you ignore the random total freezes then it's ok. R7000 it's a great router but the latest dd-wrt builds are not stable for it. I never have these issues on Netgear Genie or Tomato.

Did you do 'nvram erase' after first flash then configure? I've just not heard anyone else say that. Mine hasn't frozen at all, granted I'm not running the most current Kong but a few month old one. I do admit the Netger Genie is rock solid too even though the UI is appalling.

Post nr.5 from this thread:
"Not all people have succes with the newer builds.
My R7000 froze after a while, I tested these builds Kong builds: 31830 31920 31980.
Normal builds: 31544 31571 "

this is a more common problem than you think. I did 'nvram erase'.

Try r36070M kongac on a R7000 for a few days and we talk after. Clients connected on 2,4Ghz, 5Ghz and lan.

Go back to latest stable or any previous M build or on any STD build works for you / check the build threads. Reset config and setup manually. Report the problems you're having with current build and wait for devs. to acknowledge and correct. It is that simple to run DD-WRT on your device. R7000 is currently one of the top routers on DD-WRT development.
Tip: 35900M is a very good build.

35900M is not stable at all and you can also see this in its thread:

https://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/5180

This is the problem on every build I have tried. Reported by someone 2 years ago and closed with the message: Try latest build. And the problem is still reported by many people in the forum threads. Sometimes it takes minutes or hours until it happens and sometimes days.

Stock firmware is definitively the way to go for you.

I upgraded in november. All been working great.(other than the fact it very particular about reboots. When I reboot, I have to turn everything on in sequence. Modem, wait, router, wait, computer) all in sequence. Hoping to get away from that.

All of kongs builds say "test" in them. Is this a new thing, or did they always say that?

I know many people have different opinions, but what build am I trying? What is a good build as of late? (I know, I know... ) not wanting to "play" too much, just keep up with the times.

im using 35550M on R7000 and R6300V2, both are set up as Access Points with FTP,Samba, DDNS, IPSec Servers, JFFS, Privoxy.

R6300v2 current uptime is almost 26 days, R7000 had a similar uptime as well before it was rebooted a couple of days back to test some config changes. dont see the need to upgrade so i'm not.

If you are gonna configure VLANs don't use Kong version 36440. Having a hard time configuring the VLANs as GUI not responding very well.

Yeah since early 2017 I think he has been putting the monthly builds there and from time to time he chooses one and puts it in the root folder.
I didn't see any reason to update my R7000, not even for Kracks. You have that patch already so if I were you I wouldn't do anything.

Hi is the build on your signature is the one that you are using on your R7000. I am having some troubles with the latest build so I am thinking of reverting to an older build. It is a lot of effort to put back all configuration that is why I want to select the most stable version. Are you so far satisfied with it. Thanks.

Yeap exactly. As I said on my comment only if you care about Kracks should update, or if you have 1Gbps ISP connection so you can use SFE. In any other case, IMO, after the SFE patch the builds have been having little querks here and there. The one I'm using is the latest non-SFE version, more than half year uptime.

30771 is BrainSlayer, I just realized. last I checked they were unstable, 9 months ago. Is it OK to flash them now? or are there any other things I need to do. I had always just stuck with Kong. So that was surprising to me.

30700 and 30800 and 30800-2 are the latest <kong> builds in that area.
