So I moved into a new home that has a very distant guest room. I was able to line a cable to it and undusted an old but trusty WRT54G V2. It is currently running: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) mini, and though browsing I was able to get to later builds and many Beta, I was hoping someone could show me the latest stable.

Thanks a bundle,

Paul

Just test every build since then, and pick the best one. Razz

I (and several others, if you look thru the last few thread pages) am using 36079 on my old WRT54*'s. I'll probably try 36104 on them this week though. Your Gv2 is corerev 7, so you're good to go. Recommended to reset after flashing, and manually set up.

I'd also recommended running at 250 MHz, but you should be aware that all old WRT's I've working on needed their voltage i/o capacitors replaced; and none had any visible failure signs (I test w/ an ESR meter). So unless you can (test and...) replace them, prob best to not overclock, if you don't need. Unless of course you want to increase the chance of breaking it, and upgrade. Smile Or if you need caps, I have some to sell cheap. Cool

I been running 'dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin' r33986 on a WRT54GSv2 for months as switch for other devices + WDS link to WAP54G running 'dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin'.
Tiant caused any problems.

looks like I made an ovpn server with WRT54Gv2.2 same build here --> https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1107384#1107384

ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2017/12-04-2017-r33986/broadcom/

Haven't done any newer builds on the WRT54G boxes but they prolly work ok if jwh7 is using.

Outstanding! Thanks! I took the latest Beta to start and it's running much much better, with whatever 2010 build it had it ran a speedtest of 10 - 11 Mbits, now its a solid 19 - 20 where it should be. Also I see there are TCP alogorithms, I'm a fan of westwood. Thanks a bundle! Any other tips before I leave this installed? For max. performance/settings. Since there will be only perhaps one or two users at sporadic times, i dunno about overclocking, but you know, since it will get light use, why the heck not.

Cheers!,

Thanks "j" I followed the links and go to where the beta builds were. It's running solid. Like I mentioned in my previous post. It's all set, if there are any other settings/tweaks let me know before I leave it tucked away. It's just mostly for smartphone/tablets/ perhaps notebook use.

Cheers,

Paul

Just wondering, though I'm not using it, can I flash this on a WAP54G? I would need to check what version it is, but I know I have one somewhere....

Yes, but only micro builds, and the v1.x is corerev 4, so (as the lore goes) it must use an -old- VINT build. Though, I recall an SVN a year to two ago where BS stated it allowed wrt54g v1 to work. I asked in the forum long ago; no reply.

v2 or v3.x can use latest builds.

See here for flashing/other info:

Thanks to input from this thread, I've now loaded up 36079 mini on a WRT54Gv2, and it significantly improved overall wireless throughput, on the order of 40-50%. The "westwood" TCP algorithm seems to offer slightly better performance than "vegas," but I haven't done any extensive testing. I plan to use this particular WRT as a Client Bridge, so the improved throughput will be most appreciated.
