When you connect to the router using your router ip, usually 192.168.1.1. First screen you get scroll to the bottom and you will see a donate button. Need PayPal account.

Gives us a place to hope though. Wink

Did also send BS a donation. Had not done that for awhile.

Those of you reading this, HAVE you DONATED to BS or Kong. I bet not.

I have not donated, because I haven't bothered to use DD-WRT yet and I wasn't sure if there would be a release for this router. Once it's out and I'musing it, I will certainly donate.

Any update on this? I'm happy to donate if this is going to see the light of day and we can get a ballpark idea on the completion date Smile

I'd also donate some cash for that. I now have this r8000p sitting on my office floor unused, until the release of DD-WRT comes out for it. I can't wait to fire it up. The default firmware was trash, so I won't use this device until I can put DD-WRT on it.

Indeed the original Netgear firmware is a embarrassing work of Netgear. I've been using Asus for years and a sneaky Black Friday decision putted me in this situation. Lucky for me I can use the router on daily bases. But many witness about HUGE stability with Netgear's shitty firmware work/release.
I refuse to update because of the pretty high risk that things will work even worse......

You can follow the embarrassing farce in this thread:

Truthfully not sure the R8000P needs DD-WRT support anytime soon. These two devs are already spread so thin. What I'd prefer is LESS but BETTER router support. Just do a couple key routers that have great driver support from each manufacturer but support them really well. I'm sure there would be WAY less issues if things were focused.

Then tell us those recommended routers so we can buy them and donate.

Say there was a list of something like: Linksys: Wrt1200ACS, Wrt1900ACS, Wrt3200ACM. Netgear: R7000, R7800, R8000. Etc.. And that's all just support security, speed, stability, etc.

Well I think you're wrong there. The router itself is well builded. Really good cpu and chip. But the software from Netgear is totally embarrassing.
DD-WRT would definitely make a difference here.
Go devs....please. Make it happen.

Could not have said it better myself. The hardware is amazingly good, but it is saddled with a bad firmware.

Desperately awaiting an alternative.

On a side note, I have a question. Let me preface it by saying that I am a long-time tinkerer with any tech. I learn by doing, and experimentation, so my terminology may be wrong, but I do have I can convey myself properly.

I've noticed accessing samba shares on my LAN via hostname, rather than IP, is sorely lacking on the R8000P. For example, my Synology NAS can be accessed via \\DISKSTATION\ about half the time, but otherwise I must use \\IP\.

My question - does anyone else have this problem? I've never experienced this with the routers I've used in the past (probably 10-15). The only option I'm seeing at the moment is using static IPs on my LAN. I'm open to any suggestions!

Completely agree with both of you. This is a powerful router saddled with terrible firmware. I'm convinced if we get dd-wrt for it, it's going to be the new darling of routers, especially those interested in VPN.

I'm not currently running dd-wrt so is there another way to donate to the cause other than the embedded link in the firmware?

Been there done that. Hope BS will do a build soon. Have also pinged him, but no response. Kong cannot do anything until BS does a build as he does not have access to the drivers. Of course the r8000p could be one of those he chooses not to support.

The word I got from BS is that it's in progress but he can't commit to a time schedule yet. He said it has a new arm 64 bit cpu and he needs to rework a lot of the broadcom drivers to get it to run with the new kernels.
