I wonder if there's interest in porting DD-WRT for the Edgerouter-X.

CPU: MediaTek MT7621AT (800 MHz) - Dual Core CPU
Flash: 256MB
RAM: 256MB
System-On-Chip: MediaTek MT7621AT
Switch: MediaTek MT7621
LAN speed: 10/100/1000

Openwrt committed support for this device here:
https://dev.openwrt.org/changeset/47881

It seems like this $50 little device could be a powerful one running DD-WRT.

If there's interest in adding support we can start by donating one. Please feel free to explain the process to donate one.

Fair enough. I will use it as is then. It is probably way more stable then anyway.
