I've had a WRT1900ACv1 as my main router for the last few years.
I went from Linksys to Kong then back to Linksys then to BS.
Even with r31924, I still get restarts within 1-2 weeks.
With newer builds its within 3 days.
Resetting all settings and starting from scratch - no difference.
A couple of years ago I tested the wifi out by streaming a couple of short HD videos from my laptop to the Linksys then via ethernet to my PVR.
The 1280*720*30Hz video played fine.
The 1920*1080*30Hz video would stutter..
Tried these out last month on r35244 - same results.
A month ago I was at a recycling shop and came across a Netgear WDNR3700v4 used but in its original box with all its bits for $2.
Took it home, flashed r35531 and set it up.
Tested it out with the same two videos and guess what?
No stutter.
It doesn't have the wifi range of the Linksys - in fact its 5GHz range is quite short (I have an AP (Billion 7800NXL) set up to cover the other half of the house), but on 2.4 it is fast and reliable.
The Linksys is now on the bench as a spare. _________________ ------------------------------------

Time to own up… I’ve too have thrown the towel in on the WRT3200ACM. I could have lived with the slow wireless but the last couple of dd-wrt builds were dropping clients and hindering remote access so it was time to move on. I’ll still use dd-wrt in a lesser capacity but for the foreseeable future it’s done here as the primary router and FW. I put the RT-AC86U in service yesterday and no complaints. There is a little learning curve with Merlin but that's it
I thought the AC86U might have an issue doing gig Wan but what I’ve seen so far is the RT-AC86U its beating the 3200 all-the-way-around even though the Ethernet speeds are marginal. There was no question it would beat the 3200 out on Wi-Fi but I was surprised to see it outperform the 3200 over Ethernet. I relocated the RT-AC86U which required an additional 60 feet of cabling and still have great results. The wireless seems to be dialed-in nicely so going to leave it alone. The only other device that came close in my surplus over wireless was the RT-AC68U configured as a AP. The R7800 didn’t perform well wired or wireless so that’s gone.
So not that Mojo needed the validation but the RT-AC86U & Merlin FW is definitely a great combination. I guess I'll have to change my sig and avatar

I REALLY wanted to believe in the WRT series.
But as soon as I plugged in the AC86U and did a minimal config, it was blowing away the WRT's.
Since then( 2 months? ) I have taken the time to do my own custom stuff, and this router NEVER has crapped out. No reboots EVER. I flash Rmerlin's beta's and releases as they come out, NEVER a bad flash, always runs incredibly efficient. _________________ My "WRT" rant, and why I have gone ddwrt on x86, no more consumer routers. I'm actually toying with the idea of getting a Linksys XAC1900 and flashing it with Xwrt-Vortex.
Those units sell pretty cheap here.
Unfortunately Xwrt-Vortex will no longer be supporting it beyond the current version of their firmware.
And I'm a bit hesitant as there is a firmware size issue with these units, but Xwrt-Vortex is within that limit. _________________ ------------------------------------

Why would you want to go with a dead end when you can go with a Netgear r7800 with dd-wrt or vortex or Asus ac86u with RMerlin, all of which have 3rd party folks who are active and plan to support for sometime to come? Cheap is not always the best way to go.
Not only because $300 is a lot more than $100.
Internet access in this area will change significantly in 18 months.
From ADSL2+ to Fixed Wireless (or possibly FTTN if they change their mind again).
I don't want to overcommit for now - too many unknowns.

if you are looking to squeeze the best out of the worst, then the Linksys WRT's are perfect !

So far my $2 router is doing very well.
I had spotted a second hand Netgear X8 R8500 for $250 online earlier tonight, but didn't think it worth bothering with in the end. _________________ ------------------------------------

I briefly considered the R8500 because there is a Kong DD-WRT build for it.
Couldn't find one on here, but on myopenrouter.com
But being large, flat and with a high idle power consumption, my cat would use it as his bed until it overheats and dies! _________________ ------------------------------------

Have to say i've just jumped ship to a Asus RT-AC86U as my 1900ACS has been playing up the last few weeks with the router disconnecting from the internet when a device was using the 5Ghz did it with Stock, DD-WRT and LEDE was fine on 2.4 then all the LED's went out so gave up and got an Asus _________________ | Netgear Nighthawk X4S R7800 | Linksys WRT1900ACS V1 | Huawei Echolife HG612 3B |
We have a microcenter in Columbus. Sometimes I'm there twice a week. It's about 20 minutes from me. The closed the location that was 5 minutes from me. Lol _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
