Try these files for the 940N v6, EU and US versions.

I have not tested them.

You use files knowing that I am not responsible for potentially bricking your router. I have not tested them at all, I do not own this router.

Factory revert should be able to either just upload the factory firmware to the dd-wrt upgrade screen or use the built-in TFTP server. It should be similar to this: https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr841nd#tftp_recovery_via_bootloader_for_v8_v9_v10_v11_v12

The issue is finding the correct filename to use. I would suggest getting WireShark and watch the router boot up, it should tell you what to press to interrupt the boot and then tell you the file name and address to use.

You did unzip the file right? There is a bin file inside that you need, not the *.zip The forum won't allow *.bin file attachments, so I zipped it up.

Has anybody successfully flashed this router? All I read in the forum is problems uploading the firmware and more problems reverting to the original firmware!

Same for me on the v6 hardware with the above EU download - "The selected file is in wrong format, please select another."

Before attempting TFTP, try downgrading or upgrading factory firmware and see if that solves the 18005 error.
TFTP instructions
1. Unzip the zip file, you will find a bin file inside.
2. Install TFTP32 or TFTP64: http://tftpd32.jounin.net/tftpd32_download.html
3. Set your computer to a static ip of 192.168.0.66. Connect a LAN cord from the computer to one of the LAN ports on the router (not WAN, which is a different colour).
4. Open up TFTP32/TFTP64, on the server tab select the correct interface.
5. Place the file in a new folder on the C:// drive (call it tftp for simplicity).
6. Put the .bin file in that folder.
7. On the TFTP32/TFTP64 screen, click the browse button and select the tftp directory above.
8. Now comes the hard part, finding the correct name.
See this link for TP-Link naming schemes, it is all trial and error. https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr841nd#tftp_recovery_via_bootloader_for_v8_v9_v10_v11_v12

https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr940n#recovery_information
9. Reboot the router and see if it grabs the file (TFTP32/TFTP64 will show an uploading file window). If it does grab the file, wait at least 30 min for it to flash it successfully, do not touch it.
10. Change your computer back to auto DHCP. dd-wrt defaults to 192.168.1.1

I tryied to flash this image by TFTP procedure on my TL-WR940N v4 because it seames to have the same hardware of v6, but after download the router don't reboot automaticalli.
After manual reboot by power on, the router return to previous firmware.
Are there any "work around" about v4?
Thank You.

I have modified the header for of the 940N v3 factory to dd-wrt file to match the TP-Link firmware for 940N v4. It is not tested.
