I have a Buffalo WZR-1750DHP, but it seems not working well with Chromecast Ultra, so I upgraded it with DD-WRT firmware. Before I flash it to DD-WRT, router was running an official Buffalo firmware, version 2.29. It seems this is the latest firmware for WZR-1750DHP. That means you don't have to downgrade your firmware, I mean if it works probably also works with earlier versions. So far it seems working well, so this is what I did
(1) Pull the plug, waiting the router cooling down for about 1 hr.
I don't think it is necessary or you have to do, but while I pulled the plug my router was extremely hot. I think you can skip this step.
(2) Download DD-WRT firmware & official firmware incase something went wrong.
Downloaded the latest DD-WRT firmware 03-04-2017-r31571.
You can find it from router database, go to Downloads › betas › 2017 › 03-04-2017-r31571 › buffalo_wzr-1750dhp, download both of them.
Incase something goes wrong I also downloaded Buffalo's official firmware 2.29 & 2.03, you can find them on this page.
http://buffalo.jp/download/driver/lan/wzr-1750dhp.html <- this is the Japanese version, but I think you can also find them from their US or EU website too. But nothing went wrong so I did not use them.
Also you can find the US version Buffalo official DD-WRT firmware from this page if you wanna try it.

(3) Plug the router in & execute a 30/30/30 reset.
By simply hit the Reset button on the bottom of the router for 30 sec, then pull the plug left the device another 30 sec without power but still hold the Rest button, last plug it back again but still hold the Rest button for another 30 sec. If you have a timer set it to 90 sec so you can do it properly. The Rest button for this device is very difficult to hit, because there is a frame around the device, so I find a pencil nib & duct tape it from the top of this Reset button hole.
(4) Switch the router off & turn it back.
After the 30/30/30 reset was executed simply just switched it off & turn it back by using the ON/OFF switch.
(5) Upgrade DD-WRT firmware from its web interface.
Use a browser type http://192.168.11.1 in login to its web interface. Find the Firmware Upgrade option, click the "Choose File ..." & find the firmware you downloaded at Step (2).
For the first time flash you router choose factory-to-dd-wrt.bin, execute it & just chill until it is done.
After the router restarted automatically access http://192.168.1.1 from your browser if nothing went wrong you will see the DD-WRT blue interface.
*Option
*(6) Flash it again with another firmware.
This time use buffalo-wzr-1750dhp-webflash.bin upgrade it from DD-WRT's web interface. You can skip this step I think.
I'll have a 1750DHP soon. Just read parts of the thread 1750 Flashing... _________________ 3xBuffalo WLI-H4-D1300

Hi guys,....
I'm running my rowter with DD-WRT v24SP2- (03/24/14) std (SVN revision 23709) that came with it installed.
i have no real issues but sometimes (When the wife and kid are doing netflix) i feel like the wifi on the computer drops (all my divices are wifi)....
anyways, i was wondering if you'll recommend to upgrade or just do a 30/30/30
Firstly, what is your DL and UL speeds from the ISP?...this will tell you if you would get dropped speeds due to just a low bandwidth. Secondly, have you ever tried to set up QoS?....this helps. Thirdly, on that router you can install almost any of the firmware that BS or kong posts here but there are some that work better than others, like BS r33006 is a good build. Lastly, you can also, on the BS and Kong firmware, configure the WIFI for better range and speeds and maybe your devices will take more advantage of it once it is configured properly.
I am currently using the BS r34008 build on my wzr1750 dhp and dhpd, yes i have both and i have no issues with that build and how my router is setup.

QoS is good to look into. dd-wrt's QoS needs an overhaul, but that is another story. I only use QoS global limits and Service Priorities. Make sure to add some bulk (lowest priority) stuff as well.
My routers, I don't own a Buffalo router, are all currently running 34311 fine. _________________ Before asking a question on the forums, update dd-wrt: Where do I download firmware? I suggest reading it all.
Some dd-wrt wiki pages are up to date, others are not. PM me if you find an old one, I am trying to update them.

I got buffalo wzr-1750DHP with firmware 2.29 and did the exact steps given by you (including the 30/30/30) however after I try to upgrade the firmware using r31571 from March 2017 I get message that the firmware is older than 2.27
Even tried to use the latest firmware from dd-wrt.com 37305 dated 10-10-2018
but get the same message about firmware being too old

Sorry for the delayed reply,
I downgraded the firmware to 2.27 from the link you provided
Inspite of this when I try to flash with the dd-wrt firmware it says that the firmware is older than 2.27
I have uploaded screen shot where you can see the message and the current router firmware details
Do buffalo routers have some sort of check that it does not allow dd-wrt firmware to be flashed

That was released a long time ago. It is the 1750 DHPD which does come with a version of ddwrt which is 23709c if i remember from mine.
Also, all newer models of the 1750DHP/DHPD have been glued together making it harder to get to the serial connector inside, so if it is bricked it will be a little tricky/difficult to unbrick.

Yeah, I hate the stupid gluing, broke a case because of it.
