After years of using OpenWRT and cursing many times at the missing user friendliness in configuring user access control and QoS, I installed DD-WRT 08-29-2017-r33257 on my TP-link 1043ND v1.11 today.

Everything worked smoothly. I instantly became a fan.

That is... until I used this guide to enable ad blocking:
https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Ad_blocking (I used the 'alternative' script, the long one).

After rebooting it was game over. It's stuck in a boot loop now, with each loop lasting only about 3 seconds.

Tried and failed:
- pinging it, also with a fixed IP.
- reset to factory defaults.
- 30/30/30 reset
- TFTP (tftpd does not even see the device coming online)

It seems as though the reset button is completely ignored by the device. Whether I press it or not, I don't notice any difference.

Maybe I'll try TFTP on Linux later (right now using Windows 10).

Very glad I tried this on my 'backup' router...

Hello.

I realized that I haven't updated my router for several years. I have tried to find if a newer firmware is available, but downloads section of the site is only showing a version from 2013 (I already have it. Is there other place for downloads or am I missing something ?

Model is TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND v1.8

hi everyone,
my router was bricked by one of the betas, then I restored original firmware using serial-usb

for flashing firmwares i am using serial and commands
tftpboot 0x81000000 code.bin
erase 0xbf020000 +7c0000
cp.b 0x81000000 0xbf020000 0x7c0000
bootm 0xbf020000

or flashing using original's firmware web interface

currently the problem is following:
original firmware, openwrt, gargoyle - working
ddwrt after flashing displays following:
ERROR: Necessary service setting not found: milkfish_username - aborting.
The Milkfish Router Services
Restoring SIP ddsubscriber database from NVRAM...
Empty.
The Milkfish Router Services
Restoring SIP ddaliases database from NVRAM...
Empty.

i have tried to do
erase nvram
reboot

but no luck, the same problem persists

what can I do to make ddwrt working again?
thanks in advance for reply

Illki,
I actually had this exact problem today when flashing via serial.
It (likely) means you flashed wrong firmware.
After I flashed factory-to-ddwrt.bin it worked fine.

I think I used the one that is in the beta folder (2017-10-25 or so). Try that one. I think it was different from the one on the ddwrt page for the router.

Bricked a v1.8 by updating from a 2014 DD-WRT version to a beta one:

2017/11-16-2017-r33772/tplink_tl-wr1043nd/

Gave it to a friend who'll revive it through serial.
Bought myself another one, a v1.11 this time.

What's the latest version you've been able to run in a satisfactory fashion? I understand to flash the ones on the router page on ddwrt website is not recommended since outdated.

Edit: just got news that a too low voltage 9V adapter came with the 1.8. The 2014 firmware version was fully able to work on that, the 2017 asked for more juice it seemed. I guess it wasn't blamed on the beta flash. Easy fix.

Yes, r29721 is the one installed on all my Atheros based routers. There have been many fixes done since r22118. Yes, you can safely upgrade from r22118 to r29721 without a reset on 1043ND.

Do you still have your 1043ND V1 (V1.Cool??
I'm using the build 21061 from the main page, but willing to try the 29721.

Have you tried some newer? I use the router with stock configs (only for online gaming and parents use), but the 21061 is having some wifi stability issues....

You still recommend 29721 or some newer version for this 1.8 router? Can i install from the 21061? Need some hard reset first?

Thanks alot!

Im not sure for this last version because i wanted to try how advanced/good was lede and openwrt and i got dissapointed once again...
AAAAnyway...in previous versions i simply jumped from version to version simply using the apropiate upgrade file...i assume the proccess is the same...i dont upgrade super often but kinda every 6 months and only after a few days of others testing it...

EDIT: i was thinking, in the past i had problems to upgrade even if ddwrt to ddwrt specially if the people here issued to many versions between upgrades, if you have any problem upgrading you just need to go to factory then to the latest version, the factory revert file is also here in the forum somewhere, IF you have problems and IF you cant find the revert file ill help you but first use your googlefu powers IF you need it at all...(so many IFs lol)

There was a problem which prevented upgrade on this, and few other devices. You can check if 34080 was fixed, by trying to upgrade to latest build (34311 atm). I am stuck on 33555, and will upgrade (https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=311642) only if this is fixed.
