So, with all the krack stuff I figured I'd upgrade to a new WRT3200ACM.

The most current info on flashing a linksys WRT3200ACM can be found here.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=311117

The most recent firmware versions are located here.

ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2017/

The wiki on this site is a bit outdated for use with Marvell based modems. There is no need to do a 30/30/30 reset on a WRT3200ACM.

Thanks,
Tim

Edited to keep nubs from making the same mistakes I made.

Not sure what you read, this is a Marvell unit, if you read the instructions in that board you would see that 30-30-30 resets are not required on newer routers and can actually brick them, the wiki is not updated regularly.
So, if I am reading what you wrote correctly, you flashed the factory to dd-wrt file (which is all you needed to do to flash dd-wrt to the opposite partition, leaving the linksys stock firmware on the first) as the web flash is for flashing newer or the same version of dd-wrt from within dd-wrt to the opposite partition.

So, I am thinking you now have dd-wrt on both partitions, just so you know in case you have issues.

Thank you for the information. I did get all the info from the wiki. I never saw a warning about 30s bricking the router. I guess I got lucky there. I'll read sub forum for the Marvell units. Thanks again for the info.

I was unaware there were partitions in the router. I was under the impression that factory to dd-wrt was some sort of kill operation and the following flash was to install a complete version of dd-wrt.

I'll do more reading on all this.

Thanks,
Tim

This is all very interesting !!
Not to hijack the thread, I am only asking for clarifications on what has been written.
So if I understand correctly, one should directly flash the Linksys-WRT3200ACM firmware from the factory’s firmware interface without any form of 30/30/30 reset and the just reboot ?
I am also not familiar with the two partitions concept. Where can I find more information ?

Thanks,
Aline

Yes that is correct. Read the links in my signature, that should get you up to speed.

Thanks ! I now get it. There are two partitions to hold two firmwares. This is used during updates and can be used to "revert back" to an other version of the firmware. So less risks of actually bricking the device.

However, reading various forums I see so much complaints about the Linksys WRT3200ACM not working properly that I feel I need to buy an other router. It seems that users have been experiencing major wifi issues on the 5 GHz band for over a year now, without any fix...
Shame, I liked the specs Sad

Well they are making slow progress, I am not sure what devices myersw has but he hasn't reported any wireless drops that I know of.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=311725&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=18

I know that a few are having issues with Android devices especially the Samsung S7 and S8. I can't comment on the wireless since I am not currently using it, I did turn it on to see if my Android devices could connect and they did even on DFS channels, but I didn't run the radios very long.

I do appreciate your sig links but, finding a link in a signature using the search function on this site does not work. I don't think it's a common practice to search out veteran users and look at signatures.

Being a nub to dd-wrt, after using Toastman's Tomato builds for the least 10 years, I thought I was pretty versed at finding info. Boy, was I wrong!

Maybe I should stop day drinking before going on the net?

Again, thanks for the help, from everyone! I'm on the road to greatness!

I added some more information to the sticky that hopefully will help with the questions about recommending builds as well as a 'Change Log'. Also, updated info about flashing Linksys Stock Firmware from DD-WRT GUI.

New info preceded by BLUE

You are correct that the site search option is not good.

Don't know if you are aware of the site option in google searches. Using google search engine you can specify a web site to search. I find this useful at times. Example would be site:www.dd-wrt.com wrt3200

@CantRepeat,
To avoid misleading other "newbies", You might go back and edit your first two posts in this thread. Particularly where you posted that the 30-30-30 hard resets process works. And then you "confirm" that your posted procedure works well.

Perhaps add a comment(s) or just X or line out the initial two posts to factor in what others have now told you about.
