Hi all,

I've been happily running the last of the Kong builds (r31100M) on my WRT1900ACv1 since it came out, but would like to bump onto something a bit newer. I've three questions which I've seen conflicting answers when searching the forum:

* Is it now safe to upgrade via the DD-WRT GUI, or is it still advised to boot back into the Linksys partition and re-flash DD-WRT from there (I want to keep the Linksys firmware partition intact for emergency recovery)?

* Does moving from Kong to BS builds change how I should approach an upgrade? I can't imagine it would, but thought it worth asking.

* What is the general consensus of the most stable of the recent firmware builds on the WRT1900ACv1? Reading through other threads it looks like the latest r33257 build has UPnP issues?

TIA! Cool

31924 is by far the most stable for WRT1900AC v1. It's the last build before the updated Kernel Version 4.9 which the WRT1900AC v1 does not get along with.

You won't find it on the ftp, but it's here:

Definitely safe to upgrade from within DD-WRT GUI. If it weren't safe Brainslayer wouldn't keep releasing both Mr. Green

It's just a personal preference. Do you want to have Linksys Stock Firmware to fall back to?
Will you ever want to try out other 3rd party firmware such as LEDE, Gargoyle, OpenWRT, Tomato, etc...?

I always upgrade with the 'webflash.bin' from DD-WRT GUI & I never reset unless there's a problem.

I concur. All later versions are unstable on this router Wink

I always try the new builds as they're released with high hopes, but so far none last for more than a few days.

The last day I had 33215 running (with OpenVPN Client) the reboots were coming every 10 - 15 minutes!

Some people like to keep the Linksys Stock Firmware on one partition - I keep 31924 on one!!

I would rather have the stock firmware to roll back to, in case of issues. I'd expect any issues most likely be self inflicted ones, but at least I'll get the internet back up and running before my family kill me! Very Happy

Tempted to try other 3rd party firmware at some point in the future (would love to give Tomato a whirl), but I'm happy with DD-WRT at the moment so have no immediate plans.
