Hi all,

I am a bit new in dd-wrt and VPN.
I managed to install dd-wrt r18777 on my WNR2000v3 (no problem at all)
I just want to set ipvanish on it via the VPN tab of dd-wrt, however, this is doesn't want to work. Is anyone got this issue before or should I buy another modem?

Thanks a lot for your help

First of all update to a newer build from here: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/

I would suggest you read the build threads such as this one: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=305539&sid=fe8265cf8dccd9e9b74f62a5f5ab329b

As well as the svn timeline: http://svn.dd-wrt.com/timeline

As for your VPN issue. I would create a new thread and ask your question there. First update, do a 30-30-30 hard reset and then update to a newer build. I do know some of the newer builds may not fit on that router anymore, see this ticket for the last usable build: http://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/2945#comment:39

How do I go about downloading the build from the ftp? It prompts me for user name and password.

I think build 29440 is lastest that will fit onto the wnr2000v3

get it here -

From what I read earlier in this thread, the latest that will fit onto the wnr2000v3 is actually 29837. I tried that firmware and for some reason the radio would stop broadcasting after awhile. It would indicate it was on, but no device detected my wifi network. I tried flashing to other versions and back, tried resetting, etc, but nothing worked.

I switched to your suggested 29440 and it seems to work perfect. I think this is the end of the line for this router- after a little while I'll prolly need to get another just so I'm not sitting on firmware with security vulnerabilities.

As I'm new to dd-wrt, whats the logic behind the build system? It seems strange that newer webflash images are available complete with wnr2000v3 in the name that nonetheless are too big to actually be used for that router. Is there some script where all supported routers are built?

Hopefully at least once or twice more an image will be built that meets the space requirements of the wnr2000v3. Pretty basic router but with dd-wrt its stable and gets the job done for a home network.

Thanks for your post btw... it was helpful to get my router on the latest stable build Smile

YEA Rolling Eyes But there are actually a few other routers in same shape ... I assume they will clean house some day ... but probably not in my lifetime.
glad you got'er sorted -- but really it aint much of a router -- no doubt it will do for many things but you can only glimpes a bit at what dd-wrt has to offer

Had an issue with a certain Windows laptop mandated by g/f's job crashing the stock firmware regardless of update requiring at least a reboot and often multiple reboots. Dd-wrt has solved that issue, so even if this router is terrible at least with 29440 it doesnt crash any more.

Rest assured my next router will be an Atheros-based router capable of full dd-wrt. I like Atheros because (if I understand correctly coming from the Linux world) it doesnt require any proprietary firmware blobs.

The FTP site doesn't seem to be working for me. Probably a timeout issue but can anyone verify?

Hi All,

I am new here, and I was successfully able to install DD-WRT on WNR2000v3. I am also currently on firmware level r29440, of course with some help provided from this thread. Thanks to all of you!

I was wondering as of today, November 9, 2018, what is the best firmware version for this router?

This is what I been running on mine for very long time. It is very stable.
Netgear WNR2000v3
DD-WRT v3.0-r29837 std (06/06/16)
Linux 3.10.101 #23589 Mon Jun 6 03:15:54 CEST 2016 mips
I only use it as a WAP with a guest network. They are usually 7 wifi devices on it all time.
About half them are on the guest network (TV & DishNetwork ... just stuff I don't want on the main network..and people that drop by wanting internet for a bit). It's actually at another location on far end of my WDS link but I have access to it at all times plus there is printer/scanner connected wirelessly to it we all use.

It by far aint no GREAT router and will only do 23 dBm & don't have 5GHz but it gives NO trouble for what I use it for.
It is only a 4MB flash router so you are not going to find openVPN on it.

I picked up a WNR2000 V3,
is my path for ddwrt to go
1. flash ddwrt v.18777 Factory NA.img
2. flash ddwrt v.18777 webflash.bin
3. flash ddwrt v.29940 webflash.bin

or do i need to flash the Factory NA.img for 29940 before the 29940.bin?

thanks
