Hi All,
I have a WRT1900ACv1 currently running 07-19-2017-r32753. The question I have is not specific to this version. I have been noticing this fan behavior (or lack of it, maybe) for all versions I've tried.
My question: is it normal for the fan NOT to spin? It does do its spin-cycle on power up. My temps stay between 65C-74C depending on ambient temp conditions. Highest I've seen it go is 78C on a very hot summer day. The fan has never come on even once - at least audibly. If its running very slowly, how can I tell? I just want to ensure that this is normal behavior - I don't care much about the temps per se, just normalcy of expected behavior.

On mine it's usually always spinning, can't hear it unless your temps really get up there as I believe it actually has two speeds or maybe it's a PWM fan (I could be wrong, but that's the way mine seems to work). Since you know the fan will spinup on powerup and the router is not over heating, I guess I would not worry about it. You need to set the min/max temps 10-15C lower than default, as it seems recent builds are basing the temperature off of the wireless radio temperatures rather than CPU temperature.
I was getting reboots every so often before I made this change. Lowering temps improved stability of the v1.
I personally use Fan On - 55C, Fan Off - 50C. _________________ WRT1900AC V1 @ LEDE r4576-4.4
@BIOHazard87 - Your tip worked wonders. You're correct: it does seem to track the WiFi radio (WL0, I think) temps and not the CPU temps. Tweaking the values at 50-55 keeps the fan spinning at very low/inaudible speeds when WL0 is above 55C.
DD-WRT v3.0-r31924 std (05/02/17): Under Services settings high temp at 65 and normal 60. Checked my CPU temperature on status page and notice was 74 and visually inspected that the fan was not spinning. Did as suggested above by BIOHazzard87 and changed to 55 and 50 respectively. Fan is now spinning.
