FYI, BS just added Qualcomms opensource shortcut forwrding engine to our kernels. First test looks ok, but as usual with those techniques it has issues with qos.

Upcoming builds will enable this feature if qos is turned off.

Speeds with SFE on a R7000 with default cpu clk:

650Mbps incoming
900Mbps outgoing

thus is a huge improvement.

hmm. this is a good news....
by the way Kong as you stated Qualcomm , and R7000 is a Broadcom does that mean they will see the light too..
Also any comment about security... ??

Sounds great. My internet will soon be upgraded to 500/500mbit and I was afraid I needed to get rid of my R7000 to handle the speed.

It's just that Qualcomm open-sourced their implementation, Broadcom hasn't. Unless you mean them open-sourcing theirs...doubtful. Sad

Details for DD: http://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/5875

sorry but i got confused.... so finally R7800 or R7000 ???

Also i wonder what will be pulled out from build size in order to fit this new SFE implementation?

I was first confused at this as well, but reading some of info it would appear this implementation supports all hardware and as this thread was posted in the Broadcom section, in theory R7000 is accurate?!

Main router:

Netgear R7000 overclocked to 1.2GHz - DD-WRT v3.0-r35965M kongac

IPv6 6in4 (HE.net), OpenVPN (with PBR and split tunnelling), Entware, dnsmasq with ipset

Easy ipset support for the R7000

VPN speed: Download: 77.96 Mbps Upload: 5.00 Mbps (AES-128-CBC HMAC-SHA1)

Yes you can get 50 Mbps+ with OpenVPN on a R7000 if you configure it properly!

Previous routers:

ASUS RT-N66U - The Dark Knight
WNR2000v3 - Bought on the cheap for someone else, neutered crap
WNR3500Lv1 - First venture into the DD-WRT world

Yes, R7000. Smile Sorry I thought it was more clear in the ticket, but it was kind of mentioned in passing:

Wow, that's great news.

Will this also improve VPN speeds? Or not related at all...

Very promising!

CTF or H/W NAT is probably the only trick stock f/w has up it's sleeve over DD-WRT. Even when on stock f/w with my N66U it still gets disabled when using certain router modes/features.

Hoping this improvement can filter down to at least some of the better 'N' models which are still in circulation without causing havoc.

On a different note, it's slightly disquieting to see that certain newly released routers have locked down firmware preventing the use of DD-WRT.
Whilst my N66U mostly still does what I need, I've been half tempted recently to grab a used R7000 for cheap and tinker with it Laughing
Perhaps I should make my next router a Qualcomm model like the R7800 instead if they're more open source friendly Wink

I have got both, unless you need raw power then go with R7000. It has been rock solid for years now, check the R7800 thread and you will see dozens of problems still with it. Plus Atheros section is a mess, badly organised thread, no one cares about new build threads, etc.

Broadcom doesn't use any 'hardware NAT', it is 'accelerated NAT', via a s/w driver. Smile Same as Qualcomm's SFE, where DD's new driver is from.

But ya we're all excited... Razz

I can see what you both mean about the R7800 - both here and elsewhere Confused

For some silly reason I expected the #5 SMB ranked router and the natural successor to the R7000 to be solid despite containing completely different circuitry! Embarassed

So thanks to some clever people it's only a matter of time before SFE is further improved and the R7000 could hit similar WAN->LAN/LAN->WAN speeds as mentioned in the SmallNetBuilder review.

I wonder how Broadcom squeezed an extra 300Mb out of it?!?

Sounds like it could be well worth picking one up at the right price Wink
Newer isn't necessarily better.
Transformed an old WN2000RPTv2 into something actually usable the other day.

That's a really good news !

Do you think R7000 with SFE can handle a gigabit connection ?

I want to buy a another router for Wifi Bridging and if R7000 can be used easily with fiber connection I will take this one Smile

Great work guys !
