I turned on sshd in the web gui, but my username is still root. How would I disable username "root" and use a different username? I'm fine with the changed password.

I think this was discussed in older threads: You can't make non-root SSH user.

I think there was an nvram variable which could be change. But besides: who really cares? Root is the standard linux admin log in, which should not be changed anyways.

Root-access via SSH is a possible security issue.
On normal unix boxes you disable ssh for root, and use 'su' or 'sudo' to do the
root-stuff.

ssh for root is IMHO a possible security issue, especcially if you allow SSH from the
internet.

Configure ssh to only accept a certificate from your computer instead of accepting a password.
