Hello,

Has anyone managed to successfully flash Tenda AC18 with DD-WRT (or Tomato)?

The hardware is similar to Asus RT-AC68U.

I would love to flash DD-WRT on this beast!

Thanks for your prompt reply. So do you advise that the proper firmware for Asus RT-AC68U is used? Or that the aforementioned device is not in the list of supported devices?

Confused

He is saying, if it's not in that list it's not supported and you shouldn't flash it using other firmware.

After clearing the NVRAM and using the CFE server on my Tenda AC18 I was able to install DD-WRT. Using the reset from DD-WRT will soft brick the device, and 5ghz strength was bad. Also, it was unstable but I was able to install Kong's build from the below link and actually login with the GUI.

http://ddwrt-kong.clonevince.fr/40270/dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_STD.bin

True story.

This device has been out since October of 2016, so I doubt the work will be done to get this fixed. Still it was fun to see the DD-WRT show the device as "Broadcom Northstar" on my Tenda AC18.

Also, using the CFE, I was able to revert to Tomato.

How did you even do this? I tried to flash RT-AC68U ddwrt but didn't work.

If you want to flash this device, the best option would be to provide a flash dump, especially CFE, and OEM firmware boot log to the developer or a hardware donation. Keep in mind, however, Broadcom is not a priority because of it's proprietary nonsense.

I don't know why it doesn't work. It is exact same as RT-AC68U. How to dump all those? Also is it enough that I dump while on freshtomato? Or it must be on Tenda?
Okay I think I know what's wrong. This is Tenda AC18's cat /proc/mtd:
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00080000 00020000 "boot"
mtd1: 00180000 00020000 "nvram"
mtd2: 01e00000 00020000 "linux"
mtd3: 01c51f80 00020000 "rootfs"
mtd4: 05fe0000 00020000 "brcmnand"
mtd5: 00020000 00020000 "crash"

This is the Asus RT-AC68U's cat /proc/mtd:
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00080000 00020000 "boot"
mtd1: 00180000 00020000 "nvram"
mtd2: 03e00000 00020000 "linux"
mtd3: 03c63a2c 00020000 "rootfs"
mtd4: 03ec0000 00020000 "brcmnand"
mtd5: 00140000 00020000 "asus"
