I apologise in advance, I've been away from here for such a long time now.

I'm still running Kongac build 24345M in my Netgear R7000 and wondered if someone would be kind enough to point me in the direction of the current best Kong fw version?

Perhaps a link to the destination for the build recommended?

Also, any changes to the way the latast fw is installed, if applicable?

Apologies again, and thanks!
Darren

Last build is good for me Smile

http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/

to update R7000 use dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_STD.bin

Since coming from a really old build I would also erase nvram.

Not all people have succes with the newer builds.
My R7000 froze after a while, I tested these builds Kong builds: 31830 31920 31980.
Normal builds: 31544 31571

Also my temp is high in my opinion.

Load Average = 6%
0.13, 0.12, 0.09

CPU Temperature
CPU 76.9 °C / WL0 49.8 °C / WL1 55.6 °C

It sort of is high for an R7000. I spent an hour or so googling it yesterday, after a jump from around 65 to 77 (I'd moved the router.) I couldn't find one thread saying that ~75 wasn't too high, so I reluctantly moved the router again

That's good to hear that others have such temperatures too.
Now I don't have to worry anymore about that Smile

Look better then. 75 is not even "not too high", it's normal.

does your cat sleeps over the router??
i got not more than 55C ish but its wall mounted and there is an air flow, there are also options that you can hook an USB fan to blow in the side or just simply open the unit and add more thermal dough here and there to improve the heat transfer

Again, up until 80-85 is in the range of normal. Kong stated that even he has got a few units all day running at 100 without issue.

With all due respect.
But where do you get the information that a temperature of 80-85° is in a normal range of operation?
Please lookup the datasheet of the broadcom bcm4709a0 and let us see if the Thermal Design Power (TDP) shows 80-85°.
This is by no means a normal temperature and these high temperature is due to poor thermal discharge contruction.
This is not the first time we see this with routers and other devices.

I won't lookup anything, I trust what majority of acknowledged people post including Kong which I don't have to explain to you why he is wise on this topic.

Now you come here asking for datasheets and right afterwards you simply throw quite reassuring sentences in the air hoping we believe you? Well done, hypocrisy in its maximum expression Wink

While high, the R7000 can still safely operate in the mid 80 range quite fine still from what I know, I'd start to panic if you creep past 90 ish, Kong himself has stated the "safe temps", but sadly I cannot find the post.

I have noticed in more recent builds the general average temp has crept up a bit, but nothing alarming, people that concerned about 70C, are nowhere near any thermal threshold.

More recently I've decided to put my R7000 on a laptop cooling pad, given I overclock it (I know the risks etc), it brought temps down by about 15 degrees. Having constant air flow an the fact the unit itself is elevated off a flat surface helps here for better heat dissipation.

IPv6 6in4 (HE.net), OpenVPN (with PBR and split tunnelling), Entware, dnsmasq with ipset

Easy ipset support for the R7000

Im about to buy a Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 - before I do, can I just check a couple of things:

1) Is the DD-WRT support for the R7000 still going on? Or am I buying a router that has ran out of steam? (I know its been on sale for 3-4 years now..)

2) Does anybody know what sort of OpenVPN speeds you can expect from this sort of hardware? On my Synology NAS the VPN speed drops significantly due to the CPU speed and the encryption/decryption it is able to do.

3) My main reason for getting the R7000 is to improve the WIFI range in the house, does the DD-WRT firmware degrade this compared to the official Netgear Genie?

Cheers.
