Hi!

I want to do a project. I want to be able do some machine learning based filtering of some of the Ethernet frames in the switch.

To do that first I need to be able to read the data on the wire for the learning phase, that is not a problem. The second is to be able to filter some of the packets from within the switch. That seems to be a technical problem.

I've been looking into DD-WRT (I have a TP-Link 741), but I don't find the part which deals with the Ethernet switching where I could hook my code up and make some decisions regarding to which packet to let through and which not.

Do you have an idea?

Thx!

In general the router you have is very basic and some of the DD-WRT valuable features might not work at all...
First get a better router with at least or more than 8MB flash size RAM....http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices

Second DD-WRT supports "switch mode" but only a basic switch mode, non-managed mode.......
https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Switch
https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Access_Point

Third if you need to set up a policy based routing look here:
https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Policy_Based_Routing

or VLAN tagging (you'd need another router)
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/VLAN_Support

as well you can filter packets using IPtables as long as they are not stripped that bad (depends on router and dd-wrt build you are running)...do keep in mind some builds have stripped commands and variables in order to fit in a smaller flash size RAM builds for a cheaper routers, so better router, better build, more router capabilities, and better performance... Wink ..
