used ddup and no nvram reset. I think its running better. I dont have any reports or data. just a feeling about how fast pages load or if there are hangs. and i feel like its better. 2) Upgraded from 30815 to 30880, this time did a full power cycle afterwards as per Kong, issue with slow downstream speeds still returned. Testing at D:71 Mbps / U:14 Mbps
3) I rolled back to 30800, power cycled, and upgraded again to 30880, DID NOT POWER CYCLE. Success? Testing at D:126 Mbps / U:14 Mbps
30800 is broken. I have to disable QoS before flashing to 30800 and re-enable it after upgrading from 30800. If QoS is enabled with 30800, my router will lock up after a few minutes. Because of this, I don't have time to test speeds with QoS enabled.
For whatever reason, the only way I get proper(ish) download speeds with my QoS enabled, is if I flash 30800 first, then upgrade, and DO NOT power cycle.
For as long as I was running 30815 which seemed to be working, I did not power cycle it either.
May have time to do a full nvram erase later tonight...
Try powering down your router. Then unplug your modem and let the modem reboot. Then power your router back on. You also need to clear nvram and reconfigure.

@kong With this build getting about 30 megs on each 5ghz channel. On earlier builds I was getting 300 megs down. Can you take a look to see if there is something happening or something needs to be cleaned up?

Apparent that this service is a huge cause of the loss in speed. It's only an issue with both RFlow and QoS enabled. Disabling either service and the issue does not present itself.
I went looking for that last 40mbps of bandwidth and found it was linked to my QoS settings. I had been prioritizing Services, Netmask and MAC up to this point. It makes sense that using all of those would cause more overhead. I tried removing some of my QoS settings.
5) QoS using only Services and Netmask (MAC priority removed). D:157 / U:14
6) QoS using only Services and MAC (Netmask priority removed). D:153 / U:14
Going forward I'll use one or the other, not both Netmask and MAC.
TL;DR - RFlow / MACupd service cuts QoS limited download in half. Using both MAC and Netmask QoS prioritization also limits download. _________________ Switched to UniFi

Curious if the latter (or both) of these are related to CPU usage? I ask because on my R8500 I'm using both MAC and Netmask QoS and not experiencing any WAN speed limits (200 down, 10 up).

I ran a test with just Netmask filtering, then again with both MACID and Netmask filtering. I was running "top" in SSH and watching CPU IDLE %.
QoS with Netmask filtering Results:
D:156.86 Mbps / U:14.32 Mbps
CPU Idle Stats:
49.1% while downloading
83.1% while uploading
QoS with MACID and Netmask filtering Results:
D:135.09 Mbps / U:14.21 Mbps
CPU Idle Stats:
49.3% while downloading
88.7% while uploading

I upgraded my r7000 via telnet from 29875, which showed 160 days uptime. (Anyone know the proper way to ddup from the web interface? I always get an error.)
Performed an nvram erase since I'm coming from the previous kernel. Stable so far. Was having a hard time creating a vap and connecting to it—devices see the vap but won't connect. I suspect this is user error as it did the same thing on 29875. I need to figure out if there's a setting I'm missing that prevents the virtual interface from being valid. Right now I simply add the virtual interface, name it and set up security for it. Apparently this is not enough.
Eventually I want to create a virtual interface and use it as my dedicated VPN access point. Seems do-able but as usual with ddwrt tutorials there seems to be at least three ways of doing anything. Once I get if figured out I'll post back but if anyone has suggestions or experience in doing this it would be greatly appreciated.
