Hey guys new to the Forums. Quick question and Im not sure I am in the right place now. I have no where to go because Linksys wont help me. Ive been looking to flash to dd-wrt but Im on linksys current factory build. Am I SOL?
The reason why Im asking is the my ea8500 for some reason goes dark. The linksys connection indicator light pulses and the Ethernet and WiFi all go out. The only way to get it to work again is to restart from factory. Do you think the DD will help?
Not sure why you seem to lose connectivity (connection light pulse). I get some pretty good stability on recent builds. YMMV if you do decide to switch to dd-wrt as there is some risk to do the initial firmware upgrade but you do get quite a few features if you do. I personally use IPV6, USB-NAS, SMB, QOS, DDNS, VAP, VPN and other assorted acronyms.
FYI I'm rolling back to 7/1/16 build 30082 since that was the last build which was pretty solid for me. I tested 8/16/16 build 30432 and it kept running out of resources after a couple days and required a reboot. Wanted to make sure when I recommend something it is likely to be a solid build for people.
I tried the newest BS build r30534 on my EA8500,
the 2.4GHz is broken, as soon as I select N only or NG mixed mode, it will stop working properly and any device connect to the 2.4G will keep dropping.
Tried Kong's build, same problem.
Which build do you recom that has stable WIFI and wired connection? I do not use the USB/ESATA at the moment.
Thanks.
Ok, tried the older BS build 30082 and the WIFI is working as supposed. _________________ [Broadcom]

used to have to flash twice, not anymore, there was some silent change to the ubootenv logic
Hi, is it now flashing the other patition, than mark the uboot env to boot from the just flashed other partition?
So it's still flashing the other partition other than the currently running one? _________________ [Broadcom]

i think so, unless its changed again since mid june this year. it was flashing the other part, then also rebooting off it as part of the process _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

WoW what fun With my new toy -
Played with every Linksy Firmware I cound find and they aint too bad but they do
lack alot if you are used to dd-wrt.
Currently have Kong on one partition and BS on the other.
The off/on button trick is easy way to switch boot partitions.

Kong -- I know you like to keep things slim but wish you would throw in unbound
This is a US box and I can confirm there is no problem going from Linksys latest to dd-wrt using serial.
I had FW_EA8500_1.1.4.173728_prod.gpg.img on both partitions before I ever tried dd-wrt.
Going to do a slight MOD to leave serial attached and hanging out the side before I put it back together.
I'll put this in full service very soon --

u can do ubootenv set boot_part 1 or 2 from commands/ssh/telnet too. ubootenv get boot_part shows current partition in use _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

Thanks... had to leave it and go do real work but I'll look into closer afterlater.
Not exactly clear when flash GUI what goes where. Flashed a few dd-wrt seems Kong flashed over itself but BS would flash itself but boot the other....not sure which is on which boot part right now.
I dig deeper later
So dd-wrt works same as Linksys firmware in that -- it always flashes to other partition but will boot what it flashes.
I can see that being useful ... now that I know how it works.
Cool to just switch partitions to compare things.
Of course the 5GHz | AC-Only | VHT8O is fastest according to the droid turbo & sweetspots
It'll bang 300Mbps every once in a while -- usually around 250 - 280 using latest builds/
No noticeable difference between Kong or BS with that.
2.4 HT40 works fine for me but nothing there I couldn't do with the wndr3700v4 but I'm sure
there is a better wireless nic than what my phone has.
The 'driver generic_krait' seems to take a slip second to get things figured but all is well there I guess...
never seen cpu over 1000 all time I've been playing.
Also the 'ath10k_pci' errors seem to be in all the builds I played with. That's a bit concerning.
'brief syslogs for anyone interested'
I currently have BS 30534 on part 1
and 30590M kongat on part 2
Going to set it up after a rest break.
One thing I'm not sure about is -- I usually run unbound and will set that and everything up on BS-30534.
If I switch to the KONG build part2 that doesn't have unbound will it just ignore nvram settings it don't need?
There is actually pieces of unbound in Kong's build but nothing functional.
I always have DNS set anyways so it should just pick that up and go, huh?
Guess I'll find out soon enough -
I need my 4th antenna!!! --- using one from a E2100L and it just looks really dumb
it looks like the cpu has not been fully supported yet?
It shows only 12.5 BogoMips?
