Ouch, that was a lot of reading and different technics for a nobody flasher as I am.
I want to install DD-wrt on my new linksys E2500 to manage my VPN protocols more easily. That was before I see I have a V3.0. So, after some reading here, I began to be disappointed, and I even think to forgot the all thing.
But I found this last post on another forum, who regroup features to install DD-wrt first and Tomato after to use the 5Ghz wi-fi on the V3.0.
It's a resume of all I have read, and it have working for me, as I speak now I didn't test all the possibilities but, my router isn't Bricked and I can access to it through the web interface... so not bad
Here's the post :

You cand flash Shibby's TomatoUSB fork but not directly from Linksys defatul firmware. you have first install Fractal's trailed initial DD-WRT build (ftp://ftp.basmaf.com/Fractal_Builds/E2500-V3/dd-wrt.v24-23569_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e2500V3.bin).
As always:
1.- Do a 30/30/30 reset
2.- Flash Fractal's DD-WRT from Linksys firmware upgrade page
3.- Wait 3 minutes or so
4.- Power cycle E2500 (unplug power cord)
5.- Do another 30/30/30 just to erase NVRAM leftovers from stock firmware
6.- Login to DD-WRT and flash Shibby's E2500 build (http://tomato.groov.pl/download/K26RT-N/build5x-121-EN/Linksys%20E-series/tomato-E2500-NVRAM60K-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-121-Max.bin)
7.- Wait 3 minutes or so
8.- Do the last 30/30/30 reset
9.- That's it. You have TomatoUSB on E2500 with working 5Ghz radio and all the other stuff
I hope this help you. I have 2 E2500 v3 (N600) working on WDS mesh on the 5Ghz WiFi, so I can assure you it will work.
FYI, If you are having issues with DD-WRT,(e2500v3) just flash shibby tomato. It works perfectly, completely stable, and very intuitive.
Saved a lot of heartache for me. I am using the most recent build of shibby tomato, and havent had a single problem, both wifi bands perform well, overclocked, etc.
I have a question, this problem gives me headaches.
So far everything works for my wireless repeater bridge, like my ethernet clients connect and also the repeated wifi works.
using version: DD-WRT v3.0-r28211 mega
is there a newer or better?
But i have a really strange problem, don't know how to troubleshoot or why this occurs.
Quick summary of settings:
Security is WPA2-Personal-AES, mode 300(b/g/n), 20/40mhz = Auto, no DHCP, NO WAN, operating mode: route
In my gateway (Easybox 804) the google dns are configured, in DD-WRT DNSMasq is disabled and gateway is 192.168.2.1 and DNS is 192.168.2.1
At the clients i use DHCP or now i configure the settings in windows as static, gateway also 192.168.2.1 and DNS server 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Very often i have connections issue when surfing with any internet browser, it says in server not found (firefox) or the dns issue window in Chrome (have to look that up).
The strange thing is, that when this internet surfing issue occurs my ethernet connection says: internet access and i can ping 8.8.8.8 for example, but no internet sites like www.google.de,
sometimes often surfed local website are accessed,
flushing the dns cache sometimes helps.
The wifi strength for repeating is okay (like 50%), also the download and upload.
But this happens far often, could this be related to DD-WRT version / bugs?
How can i get a more in-depth log or troubleshooting?
Windows Firewall is disabled (but service on), DD-WRT is configured as exposed host in the Easybox / gateway, just to be sure that nothing blocks something.

This message is to say that Fractal's build (23569) has installed onto my router, however, had no connection at first. I did a 30/30/30 reset and Lan began to work. Then updated to 28211, can be found here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=287384&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0. I used their recommended settings (NG-Mixed, AES, WPA2 Personal) and I'm getting 10Mbs up and 1 Mbs down; works flawlessly. Strongly suggest upgrading to this build.

Hi all!
This is my first post in the forum... thank you all guys for contributing to this great resource
I managed to install both Fractal's and Shibby's firmwares on my E2500v3 by following Soulhealer222's instructions (https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20140727204148AA6ipGc).
However, neither firmware seems to have Chilispot. Is there a build of either firmware which has Chilispot and works with the E2500v3?

It's on the newest K3.x build E2500v1
[dd-wrt.v24-30534_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin]
I also know it's on the [dd-wrt.v24-27858_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv60k.bin]
Might read previous links above about installing on the E2500v3
I would think its on all K2.6 mega builds
Does it work well¿ --- I dunno -

Can't tell you for sure because I don't have the E2500v3.
You can read thru link I provided see what bhuggins did .... But what he did & what I might do are not nesasarily the best plan of action.
It is of course best to have your stock firmware on before changing any 3rd party firmware....
Make sure Linksys is up and good then go to ddwrt and whatever build you want.

I have managed to revert to stock using barryware's method (http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=161651), which involves hexing away a few bytes from the stock firmware of the E2500v3.
Then I tried to flash both [dd-wrt.v24-30534_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin] and [dd-wrt.v24-30534_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e2500.bin] ...
... but I have obtained only laconic "Upgrade failed" messages
I guess it is not possible yet to have a Chilispot-enabled DD-WRT firmware on the E2500v3... I'll survive and just try with the E900

Try install fractal's build first
And don't use firmware e2500.bin...that is router specific to the v1

Thank you again, mrjcd! I have done as you said (stock => Fractal's => 30534_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega), and this time I received no errors. Almost immediately after the upload of the last image was done, the page switched to: "Upgrade successful. Unit is rebooting now. Please wait a moment...".
After a minute, a "Continue" button appeared along with the message: "All configuration settings have been restored to their default values."
I clicked "Continue", and I ended up in the password change interface of DD-WRT. The firmware version, however, was still the previous one, Fractal's: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (02/12/14) mini (SVN revision 23569). No trace of the firmware I just flashed, nor of the Chilispot service.
I guess this is progress, as I did not receive the "Upgrade failed" message... maybe I should try with yet another build?
