Just installed Brainslayer 30432 on my wrt1900ac v1. Have been running Openwrt builds on it as I was getting much better throughput using Openwrt. This build comes close, but not quite as fast.

Did run into one small issue. If I select AC/N mixed VTH80 then the 5GHz wireless does not show as a wireless option on clients and the light on the router does not turn on. If I select mixed or AC only then things are fine. No biggie for me as all clients are capable of 5GHz AC except for old stuff that is 2.4GHz wireless.

Iperf speed is close to Openwrt, but Openwrt still beats DD-WRT for throughput.

Going to stay with this build for awhile and see how it performs long term. May be a winner as others have indicated.

One note:
I did rename the factory-to-ddwrt.bin the .img before I did the initial install. Installed without issue with that change.

Bill,

Just want to let you know I also was running 5.0 in pure mixed on VHT80. As a test to help you, I switched to AC/N mixed, VHT80, 149 upper. My main 5.0 ac clients can still see and connect to the 5.0 band. Just wanted to let you know.

However, I will say something strange has been happening on the 5.0 availability. I was on Kongs 30015 and had the issue you describe, though not on my first ACS. But on a new ACS, flashed with the same build, I could not see 5.0. So I flashed the BS build, and it worked out of the box, and still is. Also IPV6 has been solid for me.

BS builds have latest WiFi. Stable here so far.

After many weeks testing both BS and Kong builds on my WRT1900AC v1 I've finally switched over to LEDE.

I love the interface and simplicity of DDWRT over LEDE but I just couldn't get reliable wireless. Since switching over to LEDE everything has been rock solid and performance has been great.

That LEDE link says it has

**NEW** mwlwifi driver 10.3.0.17-20160608

Is this the same version that Kong's latest (v3.0-r30015M kongmv (06/24/16)) has or have Kong builds fallen behind?

Kong has the .17 driver.

.18 has been released this month, with a new firmware. The most notable changes in this driver/firmware so far seem to be the addition of the new "v2" models with restricted radios.

However, I will say that BS's latest from 8/16 (with the .18 driver) is running quite stable for me on my unit.

Actually it also says:
New LEDE Image Available for all ac models 8/13/2016 with Latest WiFi driver 10.3.0.18-20160804.

Kongs builds are behind but I even tried the latest BS builds and they still weren't as stable as LEDE.

In what respect? Mine has been solid for the past 4 days. 0 down time, no issues to report.

It is like a completely new router now. Way faster compared to DDWRT and no wireless slow downs. I always had wireless slow downs with some network devices (I have about 10 different devices here at home (various android TV boxes, tablets , phones etc ).

Note: I'm also running my WRT1900ac v1 with a wireless bridge config.

No disrespect to any of the devs and all the hard work they have done. I'm just posting my own results.

Installed latest Brainslayer build, 30432, on my wrt1900ac v1. Seems to be an improvement over previous builds. My iperf times are almost as good as Openwrt/LEDE. Browsing speed seems fine, have had some DD-WRT builds where there was a noticeable pause when browsing web. Yes using the same DNS servers. I tried setting the 5GHz to N/AC which caused the 5GHz wireless to not come up. No light on front panel and not broadcast. Changed to mixed and works fine. Yes I set the channels, 2.4 to 11 and 5 to 149. I do not seem to be getting as good of wireless coverage with this build as compared to Openwrt/LEDE, but this has been true for previous DD-WRT Brainslayer and Kong builds so nothing new there. Not sure why that would be as they are using the same drivers.

All in all this appears to be a solid build with maybe a few wireless quirks. One thing I like about Openwrt/LEDE is being able to look at the configuration files to see how things are actually setup/working. Have not found out how to do that with DD-WRT, there may be a way and I have just not found it.

While this is a solid build as far as I can see I am going back to Openwrt/LEDE for the better wireless coverage.

Thanks for the info. I have reinstalled the LEDE version mentioned in one of the above posts. Davidc502 is providing some really solid LEDE builds. First thing of note when I reinstall was a feeling of browsing being a little faster. Something that is hard to describe, as it is just a feeling. The 5GHz wireless is solid for me with the LEDE build as well.

Probably should let this go at that as this is a DD-WRT forum not LEDE so this is somewhat off topic.

Am guessing from looking at Kong's builds he has found a new shiny router to play with and seems to have lost interest in the wrt1900ac/s series of routers. His latest build is 2 wireless versions behind.

Update:
Not trying to make someone pick one over the other or wanting to argue which is better, just providing what I see.
Ran iperf3 on both builds. LEDE won. Not a huge margin, but LEDE is still faster for me.

Brainslayer 30432 build
