I was reading the forums and I have followed the peacock and read around a bit. But I was wondering if there is an overall best firmware with good stability for the Netgear Nighthawk r7000?
I had an R7000 a while back that I left at an office I worked in. Decided I wanted another one and ordered a new one and should get it here in a few days. The R7000 has a lot of firmware choices.
DD-WRT of course, probably Kong is best.
OpenWRT, Shibby Tomato, and AsusWRT-Merlin which is getting rave reviews by it's users. I'm going to give that a go at first but i always seem to gravitate back to DD-WRT.
I used ddwrt BS first, then I switched to kongs builds, but since a few weeks ago I use XWRT (an asus-merlin firmware for the R7000) http://xvtx.ru/
I like it best because its feature rich and very stable.
P.S.
I thought on OpenWRT WLAN is not working, is it?
I got my r7000 a couple of months ago and I use it as the main wifi AP at home. I have been using the stock firmware for the last couple of months and it is pretty stable. Range is good. No issue so far. Unless you need some features that are not available in stock firmware, I see no point to switch to a 3rd party firmware.

This sounds like a review for Kongs release.
I have had zero problems with Kongs releases right up to the latest. I have the R7000 so that is most likely the reason why Kongs DD-WRT has been so stable. _________________ Michael Steele
r29165M has been extremely stable for me, if it wasn't for the samba bugs I'd stick with this build and I don't even use samba but hate having high risk bugs. Hopefully 29440 is stable as well, which only time will tell.
If you plan to use SMB stick to 29440 kongac, not sure the equivalent BS build.

I'm not aware of the Samba bug, I use it a lot. What is the problem with it? Thanks.

Maybe you should check reviews online which you think it is better
