Hi,

I recently bought a linksys EA7500 for which unfortunately doesn't exist a dd-wrt image yet.

As the EA8500 has such image I, was asking myself how similar these images would be.

From the research I've done so far, there seems to be a change in wireless chipset (QCA 9982/83 for the EA7500, against QCA9980 (maybe this just meant QCA 998X, although there is ofcourse 4x4,instead of 3x3) for the EA8500.
Also the EA8500 has 512MB instead of 256Mb, but I guess the linux kernel just works with what it has...)

Would it be naive to think that:
1) I could try to use the EA8500 image on EA7500?
2) That if not, the changes necessary are little (changing wireless drivers) based on the source for building EA8500

For that matter are there any plans on / or is anybody already looking at building this?

Thanks,
J.

Some additional info, I have found an ath10k driver site for Linux which is maintained by Qualcomm. Chipsets spoken of are 988x and 9980, no sign of 998x. This maybe explains why there is ea8500 and no ea7500 support

We already have 9984 support, but you can't flash those images, as each build comes only with BSP for a specific model. So far every QCA9X needed additional quirks, thus adding support is only possible with the hardware.

I love my EA6900 with ddwrt, but the 5ghz range is limited. I bought the EA7500 as a future replacement. I would love to try any beta when its ready!

Is it going to be dd-wrt support for this router or is it impossible?
By it I mean linksys ea7500.

On newegg I found this:

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

We’re very pleased to know that you found the EA7500 easy to setup and even more pleased that you’re getting great range and speeds! Linksys is always committed to go above and beyond the standards in networking products.

Due to new FCC regulations, the EA7500 cannot be configured to run DD-WRT. You might want to consider our WRT- series routers. These have been designed to still be FCC compliant while allowing customers to run open source firmware. Check out the Linksys WRT1900ACS Dual-Band Wi-Fi Router with Ultra-Fast 1.6 GHz CPU and the Linksys WRT1900AC AC1900 Dual-Band Smart Wi-Fi Wireless Router. You can also reach out to us at LinksysCares@linksys.com to learn more about these products. We’ll have our Level 2 team take care of you.

Best Regards

Jay

Should I use their advice or just wait a bit longer? I like this router, but original firmware is not so good Sad

1. return it & get a supported router like ea8500
2. donate it to ddwrt (ignore the "it cant run ddwrt cause of fcc" bullshit, itll probably tftp it on)
3. use it as is

A local Target had this thing in the clearance bin for $22 still wrapped in original packaging. Is it at all usable with DD-WRT? Do you still need one to work on (donation)?

I just got this EA7500 and performance is good, but the stock firmware does not even provide my bandwidth consumption or any information that would help me track network consumption among my device.

QOS is so basic, only set priority based on my device and some set of application does not even have netflix. and its mostly looking at the download speed, QOS should be on the outbound you cant QOS your inbound much. (take note on the much)I would like to prio my VPN traffic to my office.

Is there still no firmware for this device?

I'm willing to donate mine. What do I need to do? Mail it to dd-wrt HQ? Attach a JTAG and run some commands?

Has anything come out of this? Did one of the devs get a new toy? Was it v1 or v2?
