Has anyone had any luck using this as a client bridge or repeater bridge (all I really want to do is connect a computer and a receiver on my 2nd floor to them using some cat5)? I've been trying to get it to work with my Asus RT68P but every time it finally connects to the 68P, it'll kill the internet connection for both routers and I won't be able to login to either of the router's pages from a computer connected to one router or the other. Farthest I ever got was being able to load one webpage then the network dying on me and doing as I mentioned above.
For the 6400, I'm using the build from 6/6, while my 68P is on it's latest FW.
Works great here as repeater, connects to main router Verizon Quantum G1100.
There is a newer Merlin firmware that is 6.6.1, which is much more newer than the 6.5 I've provided, I'm going to be trying out the new firmware and seeing if the WiFi bug is gone from 6.5 (where you needed a guest network to use the wifi).
have you already tried the new firmware?
the wifi works in my setup without any problems! i dont need the guest network. i had the same issue like mentioned but after i changed the mac-adresses like that it worked:

Over the past week, I've slogged through all 79 pages of this thread to make sure the issues with EA6300V1 supporting DD-WRT were worked out. What a trooper, huh?
I have Google Gigabit Fiber, and actually don't use wifi, so my main concern is just getting gigabit Ethernet and perhaps IPV6 working, but the EA6300V1 stock firmware GUI is beyond insulting. Like a couple of other posters earlier in this thread, I bought this router at a thrift store for $5. I've been using it as a gig switch until now.
I had no trouble getting Koolshare.cfe & DD-WRT (V3 28846 ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/01-16-2016-r28846/linksys-ea6400/ from 1/16/2016) installed last night. Kudos to Devianttwo/Butterworth for their tutorials! Often, the router fails to reboot itself, but always comes back like a champ when I powercycle it. Perhaps one of the two firmware images is corrupt *shrug*
I'd already poked around under the heatsink and added some thermal paste, so my temps are about 61C.
Anyway, my contribution to this thread is to post the upload and download speeds I got as I worked my way to full DD-WRT.
My HP AMD Phenom II x4 820 (2.8Ghz) PC did not come with a gigabit NIC on the motherboard, go figure. So, I added a Realtek PCIe Gigabit NIC. It's the fastest machine in the house, which isn't saying much I know.
Here are my results from speedtest.net server hosted by Google Fiber:
Download/Upload - Firmware version
560.28/842.30 - PC connected directly to Google Fiber Router
521.67/847.71 - Through EA6300V1 running stock firmware connected to GFR
308.77/363.85 - EA6300V1 running super-hacky
386.04/473.78 - super-hacky oc'd to 1200
293.05/395.44 - DD-WRT 28846
332.72/528.74 - DD-WRT 28846 oc'd to 1200
My current router is a gigabit Netgear WNDR 3700 running DD-WRT 21061 v24-sp2 (03/25/13). It cannot be overclocked, doesn't truly support IPv6 and typically gets 300/385. That's just a shade slower than the Linksys. But I know it's stable. *sigh*
It's encouraging to see that the Linksys EA6300V1 router performs much better than my Netgear WNDR3700 - but only on stock Linksys firmware. it's disappointing that DD-WRT's performance is rather poor. No better than what I've got now, though it may have a few useful new features.
I'm willing to try other firmware if someone can recommend something that is known to perform better. At minimum I need port forwarding & proper WAN loopback. I depend on access restrictions to keep several rather old embedded networked devices from having any contact with the Internet (VOIP phones and household automation). Having IPV6 working would be super, considering it's what we're all supposed to be moving to.
So, my question is, what alternate firmware do you recommend for better performance? _________________ Linksys EA6300V1 DD-WRT r29968 || Netgear WNDR3700 DD-WRT r29968

I'm seeing something similar on mine lately. Its all good, then a freeze. So far I have narrowed it down to a possible memory leak though. I am running openvpn, but other than that nothing much else.
After a boot, I check the free mem, and within a few minutes you can see the gradual decrease. Not sure if you experiencing the same thing as me?
Another boot sometimes and there is no mem leak. It also seems that if I save/apply config (even if nothing is changed), after a reboot then the issue seems to not happen, then its fine and can run for days without a freeze.

It seems DD-WRT's support of IPV6 is still mainly decorative. With that in mind, I'm less committed to it, and keen to try other firmware. Perhaps even to put hacky back on, if it supports port forwarding. Or any older firmware with the old kernel, or whatever it is that made it perform better.
Can I flash Asus/Merlin the same as DD-WRT, and using koolshare cfe from the command line?
Code:
mtd -f write EA6400_380.59_X6.6.1.trx linux2

Look! It's animated! (The uncharacteristically low, fluctuating CPU temperature is because the case is open, a laptop fan is atop the heat sink, and it's all resting on a table in front of the A/C vent, which goes off and on over the 3 hrs.)
Roger that. DD-WRT r28846 always uses up all of it's available memory, and locks up, in almost exactly 3 hour's time running on the Linksys EA3600V1. I have absolutely every extra feature, service, filter, rule, etc. turned off, including the radios.
Interestingly, I saw it run fine during the day, and only start to run out of memory late at night. So it's some process which runs in the AM hours of the day.
I've upgraded to the very latest, r29968 (16-06-17) and now it has run fine for a couple of days. However, xfer speeds are still half of what the router gets on stock Linksys firmware, even oc'd to 1200.
DD-WRT r28846 runs fine on my Netgear WNDR 3700 though (it's still my primary router). I never tested the xfer speeds on stock firmware, but it ran somewhat faster on the 2015 DD-WRT firmware I had on it before.
It's a serious pain trying to speedtest these routers, isn't it? I thought I'd hit upon a performance increase with a different TCP Congestion Control profile, but then I went and tested all 13 of them in succession, for both my Linksys and Netgear routers, and found that while a few profiles would seem to have somewhat better performance, going back to those profiles (cubic, highspeed, westwood) resulted in mediocre scores or even lower scores than the worst previously tested. I'm on Google Fiber using the GF server of Speedtest.net. _________________ Linksys EA6300V1 DD-WRT r29968 || Netgear WNDR3700 DD-WRT r29968

Love the animation
Ive gone back to DD-WRT r27858 (09/28/15). YES thats old!! and the memory problem is gone. So far 48hours and running fine. Does anybody have an idea as to what release this memory leak was introduced?
I think I will keep it on 27858 for a while, and only upgrade if somebody can recommend a better build (Whats your opinion of the best build so far for this router?)
Im not using this router as my main router so speed for me is not such an issue. My only real requirements were the 5GHZ and openvpn on virtual wifi APN wit DNSMasq (i suspect this is the cause of the leak). My fritzbox still runs the DNS. I do wish this router was better. Would love to use DD-WRT on my EA6300 as a replacement for my fritzbox.

I'm looking for an opinion on a high-performance DD-WRT, too. This will be my primary router (behind the wretched Google Fiber router) so I need Ethernet speed.
I'm keen to try Merlin, or Tomato if someone will confirm I can just flash the .trx like a .bin at the command line. _________________ Linksys EA6300V1 DD-WRT r29968 || Netgear WNDR3700 DD-WRT r29968

i strongly recommend using the xvortex-lom modified cfe on the ea6400/ea6300v1. it makes it practically brick-proof. you can always flash a new firmware image from the recovery page built into the cfe. with the stock cfe, i was frequently using serial recovery - none sicne new cfe.
i have two of these and have flashed both tomato and merlin images from the dd-wrt console and from the cfe firmware recovery page. but i'm back to dd-wrt, kong 30000m currently, with excelent performance.

That is good news, but does this cfe have settings in it which sling packets faster? _________________ Linksys EA6300V1 DD-WRT r29968 || Netgear WNDR3700 DD-WRT r29968

Is it worth upgrading from the original Koolshare CFE to the xvortex-lom? _________________ WRT-54G V6 & V8 - wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin
