I upgraded from v24 7/13 to 7/14. Upgrade seemed to go fine, but I can't get to the admin page. 'Ipconfig' showed I had an ip address of 169.*.*.* with subnet of 255.255.0.0. When this used to happen on my wrt54GS just holding the reset button while unplugging/pluggin would fix it, but not this one. I tried to 'tftp' v23 sp1 generic to the router by manually setting my ip but I kept getting a timeout.

When the router is plugged up the power led flashes for several seconds then stays on solid, the 'cisco button' quickly flashes also, the port leds seems to work normally i.e. when a network cable is plugged in the light is on, when I unplug the cable the light goes out.

Please help!

I can confirm the 14.jul. is lethal. Bricked my Buffalo after I restored to defults. I have to tftp v23 12.jul. to have it back.

Yep. Bricked right after reset to default. How I upgrade

1. Reset to factory default (OK)
2. Upgrade (OK)
3. Reset to factory default (Bricked)

I checked the wiki but it's not detailed enough about the pin procedure.. In my case, i never managed to ping it so my last resort is the pin procedure.. :S

I guess I am gonna have to jtag this thing. About 1 in 20 times was I able to get a ping response from it. Once I did get it into a state where it was constantly responding to pings. The power light was also continuously flashing. However, I could get another firmware to take. The windows version of tftp would just timeout and the linksys version kept saying it was 'erasing the firmware' but then it would come back saying 'no response from server (something to that effect) and just start the process over again. I just read some info on flushing the arp caches could help establish a connection. I am going to give this a try.

no pin procedure. just tftp. the wrtsl54gs has a long boot wait time

configure your local network 192.168.1.100
type in in the console tftp -i 192.168.1.1 dd-wrt.v23_mini_wrtsl54gs.bin (or whatever you like)
but do not press enter now.

now plugin the power and press enter at the time when the switch led's are going off

Finally FIXED!!!! TIMING IS CRITICAL!!!!!

I use WinXP pro
This is what worked for me.

1. Set network card to 10meg half-duplex (may not be necessary)
2. Manually set the NIC address to 192.168.1.* 255.255.255.0 subnet, gateway 192.168.1.1 (router default)
3. Open command prompt and type in 'tftp -i 192.168.1.1 PUT dd-wrt-mini.bin' DON'T hit enter yet.
NOTE: use the bin that is specific to your router.
4. Plug in the router's power, watch the LAN leds. Here is the timing part. When the led comes back on for the cable that you have plugged in, hit the enter button. You really have to anticipate when it is gonna light up so you can hit enter at the moment it lights.

If you timed it right the firmware will load in a few seconds and then automatically reboot.

You should have your router back.

If you get this error 'error on server: code pattern incorrect', your timing was right but you used a firmware that was not specific to your router (i.e. the generic version).

Good luck!
