Good day, first time to install custom firmware on my E1000 v2.1. I successfully install DD-WRT (dd-wrt.v24-16968_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_e1000v2) and I'm about to moved on to Tomato. What could be the possible steps of this without bricking my router?

I stumbled on this article https://scottlinux.com/2013/06/13/how-to-flash-wrt56gl-from-dd-wrt-to-tomato-shibby/ and the author said he flash his DD-WRT to Tomato Base version before upgrading to Tomato Shibby build. Do I have to do this also as well for my E1000 v2.1 or The uprading from DD-WRT to Tomato Shibby is straightforward (30/30/30 -> Shibby FW -> wait ->30/30/30)?

I would flash back to stock. Why flas dd-wrt first?
It's always advised to go back to stock firmware before flashing a different third part firmware.

I already tried that method. Stock firmware to Tomato Shibby 132 Mini. Did the required steps. boom 'Firmware upgrade failed!' thank goodness i didn't brick the router and the stock firmware stays intact. The DD-WRT 16968 Eko was successful.

Finally I finished migrating from dd-wrt.v24-16968 to Tomato Shibby 132 on E1000 v2.1. I did 30/30/30 then upgrade firmware and waited, then 30/30/30 again. I'm using it now as of this writing.

I kinda avoided 136 because I read that people have trouble in bandwidth management on v136 Multi-wan

Hi.

So I've got one of these E1000 v2.1 units, and I just want to make sure I'm loading the correct files.

After resetting the router, I flash the dd-wrt.v24-16968_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_e1000v2.bin from page 2 (http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=605776#605776).

But then what? That's where I'm not quite sure what to do next. Do I need to flash something afterwards? There are 6 k26 downloads (besides the non-existent bin file) on the router database page. Is there another upgrade I should be applying to the router afterwards?

All I want to do with this thing is turn it into an extender so that I can hopefully get my network out in the garage.

Thanks,
John

The webflash trailed build (with router model in the name) is for initial flash; the others are when already running DD, and have varying features (to fit in the 4MB flash) depending on what you want to do. See the referenced build types link from the router database. Also, have you read the Peacock announcement? Note...if you're using Repeater Bridge on k26, don't use a 26xxx or newer build, or search for 'repeat* AND k26' by author mrjcd.

I have read that in the past. I've even flashed dd-wrt to something else before, tho it has been awhile. I will review it again tho.

I was asking specifically about the v2.1 of the e1000 since the bin file can not be downloaded from the router DB page: error: /var/www/firmwares/releases//r21061-03-25-2013/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_e1000v2.bin does not exist (plus an array listing of some sort when clicking on the filename there).

I obviously don't need a lot of functionality, but I also don't want a router with a serious security hole either. If the firmware from page 2 here is good, then I suppose I'm fine.

Thanks,
John

The builds' location is in the Peacock announcement, section 3.

For 21061, e.g. it is: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2013/03-25-2013-r21061/broadcom_K26/

Edit: The last working k26 RB build is 26125 per redhawk0.

After trying many times, finally, I succeeded upgrading my Linksys E1000v2.1 to dd-wrt firmware.Thank to @Eko with dd-wrt.v24-16964_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_e1000v2-testfor21.bin (on page 2). Only this firmware worked for me, others were failed at 4% progress.

Has anyone got success getting Repeater/Repeater Bridge modes to work properly? On the latest builds, WiFi isn't even turning on (it says Radio is Off in Status). On 21061 I'm getting terribly low download speeds but upload is great.

Wireless is broken after 35531; issue is known but will be fixed in the next build.

See my signature for Repeater issues; RB is broken after 26125 or 25974, depending on the hardware. Not sure if it also applies to Repeater, but you could try build 35531 to test (or await the next build).

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply. I thought this thread was dead. Anyway I got it working after hours of trial and error. In the end the thing that worked for me was changing the wireless mode to N-only and changing the tx power to 45. Now I can get respectable speeds. Thanks!

Interesting, I always got slow speeds using N-only (vs NG-Mixed), but it depends on your neighbors and other clients. Smile

Now on the latest builds WiFi works initially i.e. I see the "dd-wrt" SSID after hard reset. But when I use Repeater or Repeater Bridge, I can't see the SSID at all if I use WiFi security. If I disable WiFi security then the SSID is visible but I can't connect any clients to it. Any ideas? Thanks.

So I dug out an old e1000v2 thats been sitting in a closet for years and I want to use it as a repeater. I downloaded dd-wrt.v24-16758_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_e1000v2.bin after flashing to this, can I just flash to a later build for example dd-wrt.v24-36006_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_e1000v2.bin

K2.6 repeater with encryption is broken after 25974 (or 26125, depending on the model).

You could, but see the above; and the E1000 obviously can't run K3.x builds w/ 4MB flash. See Repeater Issues in my signature.
