No I didn't lied. I don't know how to configure screen to those setting, wiki doesn't tell you how. I googled and didn't find the answer, so I asked.
How do you think I reached the first and second posts state?
Of course I was reading the wiki. I know google and I don't need someone to tell me to use it.
I just ask for help because I wasn't able to to do it by reading wiki, wiki isn't that straight.
But your reply just made my point, people only replies when you complain, to help, nobody does that. You let people make the mistake and then come to mock them.
This is not the community's spirit, I think some people need to go around some communities to learn how to behave there. When I got your first answer telling me to google it, the post was already more the 100 views, and now it has more than 300, so no one knows how to do it? Or are they to lazy to write a sentence help another...
Who knows, one day you'll need help, and you'll understand my situation here.
I did need help when I first started and was directed to read the wiki pages.
There are also a lot of threads about serial recovery on the e4200.
Don't use the forum search option. Use google.
Google dd-wrt e4200 serial recovery. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
I have the router broken by over two weeks, and I did lots of reading before starting (wiki, this forum, other forums).
I searched on google by e4200 serial, by serial recovery, by ddwrt serial, but I got cross information, so I thought should ask first here, where it says "issues and requests about Broadcom".
But you're right, sorry for my bad mood, i'm having a bad day here at work and discharging at you...I just didn't like this statement, it looked cynical:
"Let us know if you have any success after already applying positive and negative 12vdc from the rs232 port to the router 3v rx port."
Also the reason some question go unanswered for a long time is because they get asked over and over and over.
So after 100 times it's easier for me to add the info in the wiki and tell people to Google dd-wrt serial recovery. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.

Look's like the rX port handles +/-12vdc.
After making the circuit with MAX232 i'm able to communicate with the E4200.
The problem is that I did everything that's on wiki and it's not working. I flashed original linksys FW and the inicial "dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e4200.bin" and happens the same.
There's a print of putty:

Update:
After some weeks trying to un-brick my E4200 I finally got it!! It's working now!!!
Looks like tftp by default flashes on ascii mode, it needs to be changed to binary!
After that it worked, the router started to boot to original linksys firmware.

Well, I'm up to my eyeballs in trying to recover from a bad flash on a E4200 as well. I know this is an old thread but it still seems like the best place to chart my progress. Present state of the router is it boots repeatedly every 20 seconds or so. It is pingable at 192.168.1.1 for about 5 pings in between. I am able to TFTP and upload firmware but the problem persists. I have also tried to connect via serial adapter with two different USB to serial adapters. A Prolific 2303 and a FTDI. I've used GTKTerm and PuTTy. 115200, 8, N, 1, no flow control. Results are the same with both adapters. Hieroglyphics and unable to interrupt it.
This is not my first rodeo. I've done this before on a WRT54GS and I could swear I used a 2303 successfully. Be that as it may, it looks like I need a TTL converter for this router. So yeah, I could spend a whopping $3.30 to buy what is claimed to be a USB to TTL serial adapter on ebay and wait a few days for it to arrive, OR, I can cobble something together on perfboard from my spare parts drawers with this simple schematic. I'm going with the latter option. I'll probably build and test it tomorrow. Hope it works! Really not looking forward to that Jtag thing.
Otherwise, it's a bad connection or wrong connection order of the wires. I've never had to JTAG an E4200.
Well, if I get any data to the terminal at all (which I do) then my TX/RX are correct. Swapping them just for giggles produces nothing. I looked at the thread you linked. Really good find. I'm a Xubuntu LTS evangelist still running 16.04.7. The only PuTTy version in the repos for me is 0.67 and trying to compile 0.74 is really breaking my balls! Still working on it but I still think I've got data corruption going on due to not having a TTL connection. Just say'n.
Update: So, again for giggles, I loaded PuTTy 0.74 onto my winblows 7 virtual machine and used the recommended setting described in the other thread. Still nothing but hieroglyphics. Too cold in the workshop to build the TTL converter today. Maybe this weekend. _________________ Routers: Netgear R8000, Linksys E1200v1, E4200, WRT54Gv3, TL-WDR4300v1.7
