Hi all, Im very new at all this stuff, and came to see if anybody is willing to help me out.

Long story short im trying to monitor data use on different devices in my house.

over the last few months i have had spikes in my data usage that my ISP claimed using sometimes 75GB a day.

So today i purchased the WRT1900AC in hopes i can monitor my usage per device and see what kid or kids are pulling all of our data and causing us overages.

i am almost at 600GB for this month and am trying to figure this all out.

I did try a firmware upgrade earlier but dont believe it worked.

If anybody is willing to walk me through it i would appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

Shocked 80GB a day... what was your setup up untill now?

I'm assuming you purchased the router recently, so theres a good chance it is v2 of the wrt1900ac. You can check on the router label, it should say v1 or v2, if v2 download:

else:

After that you'll need to setup the network as you see fit. I suggest changing your WiFi name and password, find out the MAC address of devices in your house, setup a MAC address whitelist, and then have those devices connect.

Also if you have kids in the house, and they're the major users, setup a virtual interface just for them, with its own OpenDNS forced DNS redirection.

Dd-wrt is very configurable, and you'll need to do a bit of reading on the wiki to understand the how-to's, happy to help.

I was using the cable company's provided Modem/Wireless router, they restricted access for "security reasons" and would not give me the logon or password so I decided to take matters in my own hands!

Yes I did get a new router today it is V2, it seems like a very good router so far!

I'm not sure where all the data is going to, I assume one of the kids but really I'm not sure, thanks for your help so far I have a lot to learn. I'm willing to do whatever I have to to figure all of this out!

Did you also buy a cable modem along with your Linksys, or are you still using your cable companies modem?

Yes I'm using the cable company's modem

Finally I got the firmware to load!

Now it comes down to understanding everything!

First order of business is figuring out how to monitor data on each of our connected devices.

It all seems complicated but I'm sure sooner or later I'll figure it out!

Hi all, ok now that DD-WRT is installed how do I go about monitoring what each device in my home is using? I'm trying to find out what device is hogging all of the data each month (PS4, PC, iPad)

Thanks for any advice!
