Hi all.

I wondered if someone could outline me stage by stage on how to successfully get a dual WAN failover scenario working on a WRT1900AC v2.

The background is I was running a Cisco ASA 5505 firewall in a failover scenario for the last few years with no problem on my home (small business) network. Since then I have had a Fibre upgrade to take me up to 200MB and the 5505 is limited to 100MB ports unfortunately. So time for an upgrade... So rather than upgrading my ASA at a large expense I want to try/run OpenWRT/DD-WRT. I used DD-WRT a long time ago on my old WRT54GL so want to stay with it as I always liked the GUI and CLI more than OpenWRT (I know their the same CLI to a certain extent) plus it was a lot nicer out the box than OpenWRT.

Anyway my setup,

Virgin Media 200MB internet
Connected to modem on 192.168.0.1/24

BT Fibre 80MB Internet
PPPoE connection (username and password)

Now, I have read and carried out various guides and forum posts to get these two working in a failover state, (200MB as the primar).. None seem to work on the latest firmware for this router. They all seem to be written for older alternatives.

I'm guessing it's easy and I'm missing a fundamental part but as present I don't have either lines up after my latest guide and efforts. So rather than sitting here for days scratching my head and playing (I'm not getting any younger and now have a few more gray hairs after the last few days of playing). I wondered if someone could walk me through or point me at the right guide/post to help me with my setup.

On a Marwell the VLANs is created with the swconfig utility.
