Take a look at easyddup. I used to upgrade the firmware in place with easyddup on a subnet different than the dd-wrt default subnet. See what the easyddup.sh code did when asking "Save & Rest ...

Thanks @ho1Aetoo I had seen your openwrt post but still didn't know if float durations were enabled or not. Now I know.

With my dd-wrt build, the type command tells me sleep is a builtin. What does ...

I built a busybox with CONFIG_FLOAT_DURATION=y and the size is identical to the one I built with float duration disabled (strange, probably needs stripping). The dd-wrt one in /bin is a little smaller ...

Took a peak at the code and found:
* dd-wrt's busybox has both a shell built-in sleep and /bin/sleep
* /bin/sleep 0.5 dies and returns to the calling ash shell
* sleep 0.5 is built-in so when it di ...

New version 0.9.5 (March 14th).

Changes:

Include @Mrutin's feature that allows EDDUP_AUTO_SELECT_LATEST to have a waiting period to avoid automatically installing potentially bad builds. See eas ...

Currently considering a heuristic based on how long the latest build has existed (e.g. more than 10 days should mean nothing horribly wrong with the build in general).
Good idea. Something like below ...

New version posted in OP (March 16th).

Changes:

Added option -R to strip a revision suffix on routers for which dd-wrt does not have a revision specific build.

easyddup -R c1

Works as ...

Try running easyddup.sh -n to see if you can get the version you want (with -n nothing is done so you can play with it harmlessly). If the automatic hardware detection doesn't guide you to the version ...

Sorry, I moved the ntp server to a raspberry pi 1.5 years ago since it can receive the GPS's PPS signal on a header pin.

TL;DR Yes Network UPS Tools (NUT) from Entware works just fine with dd-wrt. Only tested slave mode though.

Years ago I solved my dd-wrt USB thumb drives getting corrupted or simply worn out and dyi ...
