You need to run an iperf test through the router between a hard wired connection (laptop or desktop) to your iphone via wifi to see what's really up before you start jumping to conclusions.

1. Since you're in the USA use USA for the country and not Panama, you will see no gains in using another country because your iphone will be limited to US pwr restrictions back to the router. This is ...

I can't seem to recall where I read this, so take it with a grain of salt...

v5.0 is built in China and V5.6 is built in Indonesia.
I can't find the specific forum where I read that...

But that ...

I don't own any iOS, but might you try a third party browser on the iPad? A lot of the new browser's won't play nice with the GUI...

How does other network traffic behave? Have you done a speed tes ...

I still haven't managed to add the suggested hostapd settings though, as I have no idea where to input them.

Just realize that even if you change the router to use a different country for better TX pwr, your client is likely "smart" and will assign the local country based off GPS, sim card, or lang ...

Change channels on the 5ghz radio. I would use 149+UU or 161+LL. Channel 120 is used for weather radar...worst possible channel to use....your client has to wait for the router to broadcast it's signa ...

I would suggest using channels 149+UU or 161+LL; using a middle channel as the main carrier channel may not yield what the iphone is looking for...it works, but it's not what the phone really expects. ...
