Must be one of those tricky situations that doesn't like the serial adapter connected. Could be the chipset / type of UART adapter or not. Thanks for the update.

Default BI and DTIM settings may work wonders. The advice to change them to anything else can be catch-22, especially for mobile and IoT devices.

I recently setup an Amazon fire stick for a neighbor using my router.
First mistake. Use their router. Always.
I'm pretty sure you can "discard" Wi-Fi networks in the FireTV Stick settings ...
