The setting in the WebUI doesn't enable USB support for you?
nvram set usb_enable=1 should be equivalent, but maybe the GPIOs are connected different?

One could use motion or ffmpeg via entware to grab RTSP streams, but this is a long journey.

The logo for the R6300v1 is illuminated by two LEDs.

in ssh/command will turn them both on, you could add this to startup commands.

Assuming you have a public IP and port forwarding is set up correctly, on dd-wrt: Administration->Management->Remote Access->SSH Management
