I loaded that version of OpenWRT and got almost everything working the way I wanted it. I switched the WiFi to 40mhz and then changed the channel and the router hung up. I couldn't access it via WiFi ...

Well I didn't have any luck shorting pins 17 - 18. It is strange because I can hold the reset button on the back of the router while pluging in the power and it will get a 100ttl ping for about 3secs ...

As far as your router being bricked, you can try shorting pins 8 and 9 on your tsop and see if that gets your router back into recovery mode, it's worked for other people. If not, your only option is ...
