my trusty e3000 with my favourite ddwrt, of more than 19 years
It's not quite that old, E3000 came out in 2010.

But if it's also unstable on FreshTomato too then it's probably done. All my E3000 ...

Well, with full-fat linux and x86, UASP seems to be most reliable with most later Intel chipset or NEC/Renesas USB controllers, but don't be surprised if there are major compatibility issues with many ...

Why use a dedicated NAS and not a more beefy router? Can't the router just as easily, if not more easily, simply take over the role of the NAS?
Not unless that router has a native SATA port.

Even ...

I don't have a WRT54GS but recall it was apparently very difficult to revert from DD-WRT Micro back to VxWorks, so difficult that it may be easier to convert it to WRT54G and use firmware for that ins ...

32MB RAM is not a lot--but without a USB port, they don't have to waste memory on bloated USB or NTFS or FAT drivers either. But of course then without USB you can't setup a pagefile.

FreshTomato ...

Those suggestions you have read for stock or Merlin are to increase WAN to LAN routing speeds, since those may have better CTF(Cut Through Forwarding) and FA(Flow Acceleration) implementations than ca ...

Unless something has changed very recently, 802.11r isn't supported on Broadcom--but unless you are using DFS channels, the transition should take place in well under 1 second without any such helpers ...

You should try dirty flashing them to upgrade without ever resetting or NVRAM-erasing them for anything newer than r47528.

C8 user lupin3rd reported two years ago that the issue was the "Short ...

Often the voltage actually checks fine on a DC multimeter, while the problem is a massive amount of output ripple due to dead caps in the PSU. You'd have to use an oscilloscope to see that, or for ju ...

It was probably more obvious in Broadcom MIPs such as RT-AC66 (where the CFE was on a separate 2MB NOR serial chip rather than on NAND flash with the firmware), but tools/commands for flashing firmwar ...
